Depends on what part of Mexico your in. Seriously, if you like Mexican cuisine, that book is awesome.

I'd say we have some pretty decent Tex-Mex places in town, though.

Oh it's a book. I didn't know if you meant restaurant, grocery store or what.

Tequila's - the best. Slightly below average by Dallas standards.

Cinco De Mayo - decent

Fernando's - OK

Everything else sucks.

El Portrillo is horse ****. It's not just not good. It is terrible. And it is probably the most popular one out here. It's not Mexican. It's not Tex Mex. It is authentic Mississippi Mexican, which is bad.

I feel the Mexican cookbook by Stephen A. Smith's brother is far superior.*

This is exactly correct. Tequila's is the best and I have Cinco up there too. Most Mexican restaurants in Mississippi are actually serving Tex-Mex cuisine. Most folks round here wouldn't know the difference. Authentic Mex wouldn't go over well in Mississippi, it can give you severe indigestion and possible diarrhea if not used to it. They don't eat ground beef in Mexico, they grill their **** and use strong-*** spices.

Generally, I agree with you on the Sushi. However, the best sushi I can find in Jackson is actually at one of worst hibachi places in town. Bonsai on Lakeland. When you walk in go to the right and there is a little sushi bar in the back.

Thai House is good to me...

is it that crazy to expect Jackson to have at least one decent Thai joint? And if you think it is good you haven't had good Thai food.

I cant let this go. The Thai House is run by good folks and the Beef Tom Kha (off the menu) and Red Shrimp Curry there is some of the best I have ever had. I will give you that the buffet borders Chinese food, but I still hit the buffet once every couple of weeks.

I was not aware they had off the menu items. I've been to dinner there once and lunch twice. Dinner was meh (bland noodles) and lunch was absolutely terrible. It was like sysco chinese spruced up to taste Thai. And I'm pretty sure they just had a tub of ground beef with coconut milk poured in it as their main entree the last time I was there.

I've just never been impressed at all.

How did Olive Garden not make this list. If you are white you will be the last people in the restaurant to be waited on. Service is horrible and from what I've seen all the wait staff does is play on their phones and try to hook up with the patrons. The food is bad too. Most people are ignored that go there. I have seen people just get up and leave because they were tired of being ignored. The Red Lobster next door is just about as bad.

Cafe Azteaca in Brandon is about the only Mexican place I trust becaus ei know where the buy their stuff. I worked at the Piggly Wiggly in Brandon when I was in HS a long time ago and they bought all there meat from us. They would only buy fresh chicken and hamburger and stake Never the reduced crap or flank crap.

Actually any Mexican restaurant in the US will be the same TexMex stuff. Kind of like Chinease restaurants. Chinease would never eat the crap in our Chinease restaurants. I've had authentic Mexican in Tulum, Mexico and just about everything is reduced to tomale form. Not that interesting

Agree. Ate there a couple of months ago. Portions were so small that my grandson and I stopped at Burger King on the way home. Way, way overpriced for what you get. Won't be going there again.

They actually have really good sushi at the Kroger in Brandon (real Brandon, not 39047 fake Brandon.) The sushi chef will make whatever you want on the spot if he doesn't have it out.

Nick's- bad food, bad service, bad owner

This x1000. It used to be good, really ****** now.

Bravo is terrible. Horseshit.

Side note: Eslava's on Lakeland (near Kangaroo gas station and in the old Moe's building) is the tits. Service is kinda average and it's not a big place, but the food is top notch. Mostly creole American. Some Italian as well.

First time I've ever heard anybody say anything negative about the Thai House. I love it. Great food. Not sure how the owners could be more Thai, so while I may not be an expert, I feel like they are...
