His role as drug trafficker Roat in the 1967 thriller,Wait Until Dark, is for what I best remember him.
During the last 15 minutes of the movie, theater owners turned off ALL of the lights, including the ones over the emergency exit doors. Can you imagine doing that in 2023?

That one brief scene produced as vivid an audience reaction as any I've ever seen.

That's quite a cast in that movie, will have to watch. Richard Crenna and Audrey Hepburn.

Arkin was in Edward Scissorhands. RIP!

Though well know as a comic also very capable dramatic actor.
Try "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" from 1968.

The Inlaws.. just an awesome comedy.

Little Miss Sunshine.. what a great dance routine he coached his granddaughter to perform for the talent portion of the competition.

RIP.. or should I say Rest in Laughter.

Recently say an early one.. 1967's Wait Until Dark with Audrey Hepburn playing a blind woman having to deal with a purposeful home invasion by Arkin and others looking to get *something* her husband allegedly had. Not a comedy. Saw it was mentioned above.

Luckily, Adam Arkin is a chip off the old block.

The in-laws was a great movie and Arkin was that also
I found the remake with Ryan Reynolds disappointing, it lacked the energy of the first
One thing, in the original, you weren't sure if Peter Falk was a CIA agent or just a wacko for a good part of the movie, which added to it
The remake, you knew right away that the character was an agent so that part of the storyline was not used

Such a good actor and not just in comedies - not too many people win an Oscar an Emmy and a Tony. Especially loved him in Little Miss Sunshine, Argo, Glengarry Glen Ross and The Russians are Coming. Also liked the black comedy Netflix series he did with Michael Douglass a few years back, called the Kominsky Method.

I met the son, Tony Arkin, a few times when he was going to Tisch school at NYU with my old girlfriend. Very nice guy, and seemed humble for Hollywood pedigree. I still can’t figure out why he was bothering with the school when he already had his card. RIP to his talented father Alan.

One of my favorite movies was Freebie & the Bean with Alan Arkin & James Caan … 1974.

This makes me sad.

He was awesome recently in The Kominsky Method with Michael Douglas.

Of course, one of the best scenes ever was Little Miss Sunshine - a scene they would never film now. (Giving his grandson dating advice.)

Kevin Pollak got his start in stand-up, doing impressions. He does a bit about torturing Alan Arkin via impression that is just hysterical. Look for the long version, as the one on Letterman is abbreviated (but still worth watching because Pollak does a Chris Walken bit that will have you in stitches).

Son Adam is a great actor as well.

Best adaptation of the "Serpentine" bit - HBO miniseries "Generation Kill". It comes in the last episode.

I didn’t see “Slums of Beverly Hills” mentioned.

Very good in that. Tough watch. But his performance was worth it.

Also, “Catch-22”

Allen will be missed.
One of his better performances was in a film called “The heart is a lonely hunter.”
