RIP MickeyMickey Lolich passed away. Boy was he tough. Three complete game wins in the '68 world series. RIP Mickey.
Yes they were.RIP Mickey
Lolich and Denny McLain were the 1968 Detroit Tigers version of the 19498 Boston Braves :“Spahn and Sain and pray for rain”
just like in this year's WBC, Team USA pitching is going to be Skenes and Skubal and pray for rainRIP Mickey

Except that with Skubal/Skenes- it is pray for 5 innings of bad relief pitchers in the WBC...just like in this year's WBC, Team USA pitching is going to be Skenes and Skubal and pray for rain
Weren't Don Mossi-L & Ray Narleski-R in the Tigers pen in those years?RIP Mickey

Looked them up. They were before McClain & Lolich.Weren't Don Mossi-L & Ray Narleski-R in the Tigers pen in those years?
Mossi was a Tiger from 59-to 63, which was Lolich and McLain's rookie years ( both came up in 63Weren't Don Mossi-L & Ray Narleski-R in the Tigers pen in those years?
John Hiller was the lefty in the 68 bullpen and led the relief corps with 6 saves
You are way too negative entering spring training.Except that with Skubal/Skenes- it is pray for 5 innings of bad relief pitchers in the WBC...
Now that you say it I remember Hiller & McMahon. Remember Hiller as good.Mossi was a Tiger from 59-to 63, which was Lolich and McLain's rookie years ( both came up in 63
Mickey was in rotation, Denny I think was Sept call up
Narleski played one year for Detroit ( 1959)
John Hiller was the lefty in the 68 bullpen and led the relief corps with 6 saves
Don Mc Mahon was the righty to go along with him but Detroit really didn't have a closer
I was a Tiger fan after Rocky Colavito was traded to Detroit from Cleveland and stayed a Tiger fan when he was traded to Kansas City.
But over the years moved from Detroit to other teams until settled on Diamondbacks when that franchise started.
When the Giants left NY I left them ( putting them on my do not like list with the Dodgers and Yankees) and picked Cleveland as my team because of Rocky and how he looked at the plate getting ready to hit.
I copied his bat in back stretch warm up and wide stance.
Didn't do me a bit of good , everyone who seen me hit said I deserved a seat on bench![]()
Then Mickey played one year for them and decided to retire rather then go backBroke my heart when the Mets traded Rusty Staub for him in 1975.
If I remember correctly that season was the first time the Pods finished above .500.Then Mickey played one year for them and decided to retire rather then go back
Sat out 1977 and signed with the SD Padres for the 1978 season
RIP, I remember when he picked off Brock and Flood in the World Series
I was at that game as well! I believe Willie Horton homered for the Tigers run.My father took my brother and I to The Stadium in '68 and saw Mel Stottlemyer defeat McClain 2-1 to defer his path to 30. Roy White down the right field line with 1 on in the 1st was the Yankee offense. Game took less than 2 hours

Brock sure as heck looked safe.Geez - Brock was safe by a mile. But no replay in those days. Interesting that Brock doesn't freak out about it. I guess he didn't want to risk getting tossed.
Spahn and Marichal totaled 31 1/3 total innings pitched. 7/2/1963RIP Mickey

Always liked Kuenn, as you say, especially his Tiger years.Don't forget to notice the 1959 AL Batting Champion and a 10x AL All Star along with being the AL ROY in 1953 was on 3rd base for the Giants that game
When he retired as a player ,after15-season, he had over 2,000 hits and a lifetime batting average of .303.
Harvey Kuenn was a player I liked when he was a Tiger
