Blast from the Past, I was a little kid in Detroit when the Tigers won the 1968 WS. My older brothers knew all the players by heart. Lolich was phenomenal in the WS, throwing 3 complete game victories, which earned him the WS MVP. He's the only player to do that in the WS.

Weren't Don Mossi-L & Ray Narleski-R in the Tigers pen in those years?

Mossi was a Tiger from 59-to 63, which was Lolich and McLain's rookie years ( both came up in 63
Mickey was in rotation, Denny I think was Sept call up
Narleski played one year for Detroit ( 1959)
John Hiller was the lefty in the 68 bullpen and led the relief corps with 6 saves
Don Mc Mahon was the righty to go along with him but Detroit really didn't have a closer

I was a Tiger fan after Rocky Colavito was traded to Detroit from Cleveland and stayed a Tiger fan when he was traded to Kansas City.
But over the years moved from Detroit to other teams until settled on Diamondbacks when that franchise started.
When the Giants left NY I left them ( putting them on my do not like list with the Dodgers and Yankees) and picked Cleveland as my team because of Rocky and how he looked at the plate getting ready to hit.
I copied his bat in back stretch warm up and wide stance.
Didn't do me a bit of good , everyone who seen me hit said I deserved a seat on bench :(

My father took my brother and I to The Stadium in '68 and saw Mel Stottlemyer defeat McClain 2-1 to defer his path to 30. Roy White down the right field line with 1 on in the 1st was the Yankee offense. Game took less than 2 hours

Now that you say it I remember Hiller & McMahon. Remember Hiller as good.
I became a Pirate fan after the Dodgers left Brooklyn. We left Brooklyn at the same time. Listened to the Pirates in upstate NY on KDKA out of Pittsburgh with Bob Prince & Jim Wood. Prince was a howl. Bucs had some great clubs.

Broke my heart when the Mets traded Rusty Staub for him in 1975.
Then Mickey played one year for them and decided to retire rather then go back
Sat out 1977 and signed with the SD Padres for the 1978 season

If I remember correctly that season was the first time the Pods finished above .500.
Believe it or not there were four future HOFamers on that team: Ozzie Smith, Dave Winfield, Gaylord Perry and Rollie Fingers.
Perry won the Cy Young that year making him the first pitcher to win it in both leagues. (Cleveland 1972)

Geez - Brock was safe by a mile. But no replay in those days. Interesting that Brock doesn't freak out about it. I guess he didn't want to risk getting tossed.

I was at that game as well! I believe Willie Horton homered for the Tigers run.

Right you are. I was looking down at my program when he made contact and I said "Gone" to my self before I looked up.

Lolich said that when his arm got tired his sinking fast ball sunk more.

Reminded me of a guy I played semi-pro ball with in NY's southern tier. Name was John Reid, few years younger than me. Went to Colgate.
He pitched & played short. One game I came off the infield late in a game & told our manager Ralph Howard, a really good one, that it looked like John's curve had a bigger break on it. Ralph told me that many a guy's curve would break bigger when his arm got tired. Didn't know that.

John Reid went on to both pitch & play short at the Triple A level. All Star at a few levels. A real good ball player.

Unreal batting lineup for SF: Mays,McCovey, Alou, Cepeda.
Don't forget to notice the 1959 AL Batting Champion and a 10x AL All Star along with being the AL ROY in 1953 was on 3rd base for the Giants that game
When he retired as a player ,after15-season, he had over 2,000 hits and a lifetime batting average of .303.
Harvey Kuenn was a player I liked when he was a Tiger

Always liked Kuenn, as you say, especially his Tiger years.
