Legendary career! I'm thinking All in the Family and Sanford and Son would not make it on network TV today.
No idea he was still alive. Thought he kicked the bucket a long, long time ago.
Carl Reiner passed in 2020. They were close.

He went by Fred, but his name was John Frederick Sanford. No "G," the G stands for . . . . . .that was one of the most memorable lines from Sanford and Son, along with "Lamont, you big dummy!," and Aunt Esther, "You better watch it, sucker!!"

My father took a different route...paratrooper 82nd Airborne. I can't imagine jumping out of a plane behind enemy lines, while the enemy was shooting at you.
