Seemed like a decent dude and was a fantastic singer. RIP

First thought I had (and I'm guessing a lot of people) is drugs. Leaves behind 2 teenage kids - that's the heartbreaking part of this. RIP.

Damn, I hope this wasn't drug related. I hope he was clean. Big fan of the old version of STP.

Unfortunately, over the years it's become a rock and roll cliché. He was a very good singer. RIP.

Great singer, great performer. Very sad but if you asked me who I'd take in a who's the next celebrity to die pool he would have been one at the top of my list.

Remember reading a story some years ago about him getting pulled over in the Bronx. The cop asked him if he was lost and he stated "no I'm just looking for somewhere to buy some crack".

RIP Scott. A sad day for rock and roll. STP was probably one of my top 5 favorite artists and by far my fave of the grunge era which I was heavily into. So many classic songs like Plush, Interstate Love Song, Vasoline, Big Empty, Sour Girl, Sex Type Thing, Wicked Garden. Scott was a true rock and roll star in an era where there are very few. We have now lost 3 lead singers from 3 of the biggest bands 90s..Cobain, Staley, and now Weiland but there music will live forever on Sirius Lithium.

Oddly enough, the song that got me into STP was Dead and Bloated. That was in regular rotation on WSOU in 1992, along with New World order by Ministry. I remember blasting SOU on my way back and forth to Seton Hall Law School to blow off steam. Saw STP perform with Scott in Asbury Park twice. Good memories.

Bummer but not surprising. Even if it wasn't an OD, years of drugs has to have taken a toll. He probably had the insides of a 90 year old.

RIP, but surprised that he lasted this long. STP at its height was an amazing band. Saw them at MSG back in the day and it was one of the best concerts that I ever experienced.

Extremely talented musician who I was fortunate to see perform at NJPAC a few years ago.

I'm saddened but as others have mentioned, not really surprised.
I'm sure he lived his life to the fullest but his addiction demons were too strong to overcome.

Constant binging of booze and dry goods for around 30 years is not good on the system.

Also the lead singer of Sublime.

Alice In Chains just never sounded the same once Layne passed.

I know Cantrell wrote most if not all of the music and songs, but, I never bought a cd post-Layne.

Not unexpected but sucks anyway. Saw him a bunch of times with STP and VR.Allso sad that he died on the road in a bus out in God knows where. He didn't want to be on the road so much but he said in an interview around 5 years ago he had to to make enough money to keep up with his alimony payments/child support to his second wife which were around 60K a month.
