Anyone had any experiences with a Benelli Supernova? Looking for a new shotgun for duck hunting.

Those are a handful shooting 3 1/2s even with the comfortech stock. If you're wanting to stay close to that price range go for the franchi affinity. It shoots 3 1/2s, operates on the inertia system and is a good quality gun. If you have the money to spend get a browning maxus though. Best shotgun I own

The Super Black Eagle II is the standard by which all others are judged!

The Nova is a great gun, it just feels bulky and not very smooth of an action but I would still choose it over a Remington 870 express. The Benelli , the Franchi, and the Stoeger autos all have the same inertia system and are all owned by Benelli. The Stoeger is made in Turkey so it is priced close to the Nova and I would choose it over the Nova if that was my budget. If you go with the Benelli, spend the extra for the comfortec stock, you won't regret it. The Franchi is priced somewhere in between. I personally shoot a Benelli Vinci 3" and like it very well, it is a little different looking but it just feels good on the shoulder. If I had it to do over, I might go with the Super Vinci to have the option to shoot 3 1/2s but most of the group I hunt with have SBE IIs and all just shoot 3". My advice is to find a gun shop that does lay away and get what you want, you have 8 months to pay for it. There should be some used guns available after the season a reasonable prices. I'm not sure where you are located but if you are anywhere near NE Ms, try Mitch's Gun Shop in Hamilton just north of Columbus , talk to Michael 662- 343- 8322, they lay away and ship.

not a duck hunter but, like everyone has said, the SBE is pretty much the standard. I do have a Cordoba for dove hunting and that thing is ridiculous compared to the others that i have used.

I've

got one and its always held up well. I've never had any big problems with it. If you take care of your gear, your gear will take care of you.

There is nothing more simple to work on than a Benelli auto, I think there is only like 7 parts unless you disassemble the bolt assembly and the trigger assembly. I'll agree that a pump has been historically the most dependable but I saw my son disassemble and reassemble his SBE standing in waist deep water this season, he had put the magazine follower in backwards while cleaning it. The only thing he used was his two hands and his wader pockets to store the parts as he removed them. A Benelli auto will take a lot of punishment before it fails, I've never had mine fail to fire even after being dropped in the water, used as a boat paddle, and not cleaned for weeks during the season. The pump may be more dependable but the ease of maintainance and simplicity of the Benelli negates that in my opinion. The shootability of the Benelli Auto far out ways the slight possibility of failure. I've killed many a duck with a Ithaca model 37 with a Poly choke, had to retire it when they mandated steel shot so yeah, I'll agree with you on the pump being pretty much bullet proof.

Buddies' Benelli M2 practically fell apart while hunting yesterday morning right after he was giving me a hard time about the one time my 11-87 failed to eject a spent shell.

Thanks for the advice. I've been interested in Benelli's after hearing about their reliability. The Supernova is the closest to my price range at the moment. Apparently getting married and buying a house is expensive..... Who knew?

Just curious

but how well does your friend take care of his firearms? Not to say its impossible, but I just find it hard to believe that a well-disciplined gun owner could have this happen to their weapon. Again, I'm not trying to call you out or say your lying.

He owns and knows more about guns than anyone I know. Family runs a gun shop.

I was just illustrating that it can happen to the $1,500 guns as easily as the $500 ones.

Take a look at Berreta

I have had a Berreta Silver Mallard for about 15 years and although I rarely hunt now, back when I hunted a lot I loved it.

I've been shooting the supernova

For about 7 years now and love it. Pumps, by nature are not top of the line guns, so it's silly to compare a supernova to a sbe. But I prefer shooting a pump, especially in the marsh.

I had a supernova and was a pretty good gun. Killed a turkey at 65 steps with a tru glo choke. Easy to take down and clean and rust proof outer finish. After several years it developed a problem with the 2nd shell. It would eject first shell but would not load second into chamber. It would do this after shooting and just unloading without firing. Touch the floor plate and it would flip shell up to be slid in chamber. Third shell would cycle normally. Never tried it without plug out to see if it still would hang.

Sold it and used that money for a down payment on a Berretta Extrema 2. It's in the about the same category of a SBE2. Both fine shotguns. My Extrema has never failed to cycle no matter what the load or powder charge.
