The dude is out there. I don’t think he should have gotten a tech but he can’t do that. He's like a kid whose parents let him do anything he wants. Eventually something has to happen. You can’t put your face on another persons face, especially the ref. Just bizarre behavior.

From today's WSJ: "Demonstrative Dan Hurley may be an acquired taste—this is a coach who spends much of the game looking like a guy who can’t believe your table is ready before his—but his success is hard to argue. " GREAT LINE from Jason Gay!

Your routine is getting old.
We get it. You are the perfect fan.
Other fans suck.
They like Pike and EO, which is a ridiculous take, but if that makes you feel better about your fanhood, nobody will stop you.

Plenty of people disagree with you. Rules are rules.

if you call a tech there the entire building and everyone on TV better know exactly why in the instant you blow your whistle...

you don't call one because a bench guy put two feet on the court for a half a second or whatever the hell this is above...

it's one of the biggest shots in the history of the tournament and the players have fully decided the outcome don't make it about yourself as a ref.

Danny has been a head case for some time but he’s an unbelievable basketball junkie, coach and motivator. That being said, that’s a tech all day everyday if he made physical contact with the ref.

He’s a winner by any measure but he needs to meet with a mental health professional asap.

3 Final 4's in 4 years, back to back championships

His players love him, his fans love him, the coaching fraternity respects the hell out of him.

Remarkable coaching job yesterday.

Read his latest book, he pulls no punches on himself.

I sure do wish he was coaching the Scarlet Knights

He should be suspended from their next game. You don’t get to physically intimidate the referees.

Imagine if the ref did that to him. He’d be out of a job.

When did the head on headrest thing happen? If it would have decided the game (last seconds) I say no technical. Otherwise it absolutely is a technical. Guy is a strange dude.

edit: see that it happened after the last second shot. So No technical in my view. Can’t decide a game like that. With that said he should get a 1 game suspension to start the next season just as a message (maybe a weak one) that he can’t act like a buffoon.

No technical but a 1 game suspension?

Doesn’t matter if there was next to no time left on the clock imo. In basically any sport if you make contact with a ref / official it is an automatic penalty and even an ejection.

He should have been t’ed up and tossed but unfortunately the refs had no balls.

Strange dude indeed

honestly - just the coat hanging off his shoulder is weird. I’ve never seen any one do that before under any circumstances let alone on national tv. What was that?

but the “forehead touch” thing … beyond bizarre.

Randy Ayers - the ref - is the ref who screwed us and cost us a ncaa berth with the non call at Ohio state several years ago.
He was also asked by Seth Greenberg today about the incident, Ayers reply " what are you talking about"

Accordingly to Mad Dog today, Ayers and Hurley have a good, professional relationship.

Too much wokeness going on out there over this

Play ball !

"Most games, I'm in a dialogue with those refs. And they're dialoguing with me. Cracking jokes, busting balls. It's not all animus all the time out there. It's a relationship, and this game is all about relationships. So I feel comfortable, when over those same refs blow a call, jumping on their asses. Telling them what I think.

"Then going right back to joking with them.

"Most people don't see all that subtext and context and context. They just see me raging like a madman.

"The refs see it clearly. The do. And honestly I believe that eight out of every ten refs thing the villainous way I'm portrayed in the media is b******t. They like me. Not to be Sally Field about it, they really, really like me.

"And I like them. Mostly."

The ref said is was nothing and barely remembered it. He has a relationship with Hurley and regardless knows it’s not a spot to make that call.

ref said it was nothing on national tv close the thread up or just admit you’re a Hurley hater

He can't keep going at the rate he's going, insane wise, and keep his sanity
My hope, and admittedly it's not something I ever anticipate happening, is that he burns himself out at UConn and comes back to Jersey

Gains perspective, wants to come home, and coaches here OTB, albeit in a slightly more toned-down version
Regardless, I'd give zero F's if he was crazy here - as long as he won, and won big, that's all I, and many others, would care about

You're right. I can't see him coaching for 20 years with that intensity. But I don't think a benzodiazepined version work.

I think it'd be more adapting then changing
E.G., the expectations OTB would be a lot less then in Stoors, so I'd assume he'd also be calmer just b/c of that
Again, this is likely a pipe dream, but it's fun to dream nonetheless

No technical deserved.
He intentionally made contact with the crown of his head. It's absolutely a T.

Change the rules of the game for different times of the game? I never agree with that. He intentionally contacted a ref to intimidate. What's next? A light headbutt is ok as long as it's a one possession game and within ten seconds remaining? If so, put it in the rules. And the refs would not have changed the outcome of the game. D*ckhead Danny would have changed the outcome. The refs would enforce the behavior which is what they are paid to do.
