Does he have anything left coming back from the oldest team in the NCAA? Might be a good time to get out while the getting's good.
No, but there's always the transfer portal I guess.

That said, he's from Indiana and spent much of his coaching career there... Including IU South Bend.

I'd think the odds are on him leaving Happy Valley.

If I were him I would stay, unless going home is really the pull. If he leaves it’s great news for Rutgers.

there is no reason for him to stay given he will get a ton more support at Notre Dame, its a thread the needle type coaching job to win at Penn State, he did it this year but one missed putback at Maryland and he would have been on the sidelines this March

He’s gone imo unless PSU throws him a boatload of money.

He’s losing one of the best players in the country (Pickett) and a ton of experience on the oldest team in the country.

He did great constructing a complete team through the portal but it won’t be easy to replicate the team he just had.

Also, PSU alumni don’t give a crap about basketball…and who wants to coach in that crappy arena in happy valley in the middle of winter every year…..when he can go back home to Indiana.

I think he had pretty good recruiting classes in 2022 and 2023, if so that might give him insentive to stay.
But IA'm sure he's expect PSU to match what ND offered, if it's a good one.

I mean we were 2-0 against them but certainly respect the job he's done there. As someone else in another thread pointed out, he struck portal gold in Pickett and Funk.

A friend of mine who is a well heeled and connected donor there said they threw the bank at him. We will see if it was enough.

The speculation is hysterical. Everyone seems to be sure he’s gone! Who knows what’s in his mind and heart

I would like to see him go to ND…think he is a great coach and seems like a guy who speaks his kind. Would rather root for him out of conference

Guessing the money will be the same PSU matches at least, just depends whether he has bigger aspirations, if so he’s gone, plus he’s a midwestern guy most anything is better than state college unless he likes to hunt and fish!

I would think ND is a decent job . They’ve had success in that conference . The ceiling may not be as high at other places, but they do get a certain type of kid that wants to play there , so the floor isn’t that low either

I agree get him out of the conference . But be careful what you wish for …maybe ND hoops winds up in the BIG at some point !
We beat PSU twice this season, a 20 point blowout win at home and a 15 point comeback win in the 2nd half at PSU and yet we are worshipping their head coach?

Does not compute.

Claiming that he is a great HC seems like misguided groupthink imo.

It will be interesting to see if Penn State is actually going to support basketball or treat it like an Olympic sport like it has in the past.

Define “Great. ” Might be a nice guy but bunch of portal players does not a great coach make. Looks more like getting outta Dodge.

We see that the school spends on football at a level to compete with the best
They are probably flush with money and could easily match and beat a ND salary offer
It is just a matter if he wants the ND job aside from the pay

He deserves better than PSU and would be a consistent Sweet 16 contender or better at ND. The “ND doesn’t care about basketball” narrative is overrated here.

That said, I think he’ll stay and his agent has done his job like Franklin’s.

A big long-term contract for a coach with a career 37-31 record? Risky.
I havent followed Nit MBB so I'm not sure if Penn St should give him an extention with big bucks payout.
He might be worth it if he took a bad trouble plagued program and made it
into what the Nits look like now.
If the program was good before he got there, let him leave and find someonre that looks like he can keep the program moving forward.

Bey was pushed out so that might not be such a plum job the way program is now and Notre Dame MBB isn't a top of the line program, but considered a good one.
So he might not feel it's such a great move if the money is not far better
than what PSU is willing to pay

Any big long term contract is risky but I think Micah is a really good coach and despite his minimal head coaching experience would be a great hire.

I agree but I'm just surprised he would take it--------very hard job.

Perhaps being a native of Indiana had something to do with it.

I'm sure PSU put a great offer in front of him to stay.
