I have been a loyal subscriber for over 40 years and was finally going to give it up. Then they gave me another 2 years for $10. I have not received an issue since last month's Sportsman of the Year issue so I wouldn't be surprised if they ended the magazine. It's been sh*t for the last 15 years so I would welcome it.

I stopped getting the swim suit issue years ago. I must have opted out when it turned for the worst.

Seems the party that licensed the magazine rights was operated poorly and missed a licensing payment. So the Arena Group pulled the agreement.
>The reason for the magazine’s sudden closure came down to debt. Sports Illustrated had been housed in a complex corporate structure ever since it was sold by Meredith to Authentic Brands Group in 2019 for $110 million. Later that year, ABG — which is controlled by asset manager BlackRock, and owns Reebok and manages the likeness of Muhammed Ali — sold off the publishing rights to a company called The Maven, which was led by publisher Ross Levinsohn. (Later it would change its name to The Arena Group.) That deal meant that Arena had to pay $15 million a year for ten years.<

>The end functionally came on January 3, when Arena Group failed to make a $3.75 million debt payment to Authentic Brands, according to securities filings. That gave Authentic the right to revoke the publishing license (as well as collect $45 million in another payment.)<

SI has been unofficially dead for years. This is just a formality.

Most of the best sportswriters are now at The Athletic, imo.
Agree. Really died when the medium changed and they didn’t need the photographers any more. Sad that it’s an end of era but almost inevitable. The online product they were putting out recently was horrible.

You know what gets me…all the women that always get upset at the hot, thin chics. And that men are so wrong for putting them on a pedestal and not loving them and their larger bodies. But what they are really saying…they are mad that the hot thin men are not attracted to them. You don’t see these plus size models trying to date plus size men.
I also don’t believe they want fat pencil dicks in chippendales or their porn or fashion magazines either…

Must have 400 si magazines in the basement over the last 40 years, My favorite is one with Larry Bird on the cover at Indiana State.
Remember that college hoops preview with Kelvin Troy in the photo shoot? As a young fan, that was one of my favorite issues.

It is a grave injustice I tell you.

I gotta find that photo somewhere. Wasn’t our friend Roosevelt Bouie in that photo too?

not bad

in a society that feels greed is good, when you pay more than you can afford because the product isn't as popular as years ago , your investment becomes a liability and you have to dump it.
Times change and what was once popular is replaced by other things

But good looking women never go out of style

Yes. Those late 1970's Swimsuit Issues were 🔥. Got a subscription to SI as a wee lad, and I saved all those mags, but they got tossed out when my parents cleaned the attic. I was like:

Season 5 No GIF by The Office
Don’t tell me you’re blaming mom on this one like everyone does with vintage baseball cards?! 😁

Nope, wrong on this one. Just an evolution about how people consume info. Not surprised that you all agree though - shocker! 😂
times change, some refuse to believe that and look for other reasons for why something happened .
Remember you can lead a horse to water, but a jack-*** will piss in it. 😇

They tried to broaden their audience which hurt the brand

Its why espn sucks and is losing
Okay, name me a vintage magazine that is thriving today? Some biz models can adapt and some can’t (pun sort of intended). To blame their downfall on featuring plus size models briefly is myopic and ridiculous. I love this board community but geez sometimes with you folks…
