Despite winning 324 games, throwing seven no hitters and striking out 5,714 hitters it is hard to believe that Nolan Ryan didn't win a Cy Young or an MVP. Ryan's highest finish in the Cy Young Award was 2nd in 1973 and his highest MVP finish was 14th in 1974.

Canadian Dukie you are now up!
Wow, no Cy Young for Nolan Ryan. That’s absurd.

Before the NFL mandated the use of helmets in 1943, who was the last player not to use one?

I was reading an article a few weeks ago discussing how Tom Brady would be effected by the rule that all players will have to be in approved helmets and I remember the article mentioning the answer to your question. My spelling could be off but I think it’s Dick Plassman?

1) 2008 ACC Defensive Player of the Year- DeMarcus Nelson
2) Second in Assists- Chris Duhon
3) 2001 Elite 8- USC, who was a six seed that knocked off Kentucky in the Sweet 16. Much was made about the last Duke championship won in 1992 and that if the Blue Devils won the 2001 championship they would take the same route as they did in 1992. Many experts felts that Duke and Kentucky would meet in the Elite 8 in Philadelphia.
4) #24- Johnny Dawkins
5) Third leading scorer in 2006- Josh McRoberts right behind JJ Redick and Shelden Williams

MLB Expansion

In 1998, Major League Baseball added two new teams, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Name the starting pitcher for both clubs on opening day.

I was torn between Josh McRoberts and Jon Schyer as the third leading scorer as I thought the question could have been a little misleading given the year. I went with McRoberts because Schyer was a freshman in 2006-2007.

Yeah I was for sure referring to 05-06 and not 06-07. I reckon I could have been a bit more clear lol. Glad you got it anyway.

Without a doubt you may be the best sports trivia player on this board. I think you know just about every question ask and you can come up with some of the most difficult questions. There was a sports trivia show on ESPN several years ago. I can't remember the name of it but I think Stuart Scott and the object was to beat the guru that was on the show. The guru was unbelievable. Hardly ever got beat. You should have been a contestant on that show. OFC

Oh Sky btw, the question I asked several weeks ago of a Yankee who later coached college baseball. Yes Scott Brosius was technically the answer, but I was really looking for this guy I thought you would know....

60s 2nd Sacker Bobby Richardson later coached at South Carolina.

I gave up and looked at the answers yesterday. I've heard of both of the pitchers, but I honestly don't think most people remember these pitchers on the expansion team. You might need to offer some hints - or simply ask another question and say whoever gets either question first wins the round.

billieball is tough. I don't even attempt to even guess. I just look it up. He's a trivia master. He must have a job in the sports business. He gets a lot of the tougher questions asked here also. I'm just gonna saying uncle and look it up. OFC

I believe McCaffery was a sub on that team.
Changing my pick to Greg Koubek.
Greg Koubek is correct! Koubek, a senior co-captain playing in his fourth Final Four, scored the first five points but never scored another point after his tip in basket off a Christian Laettner miss.

3 part question.
1. Which MLB player was discovered and signed when a baseball scout showed up to sign his brother only to find out he had died in farming accident? The scout decided to sign the brother which turned out to be a success.
2. Who nicknamed Pete Rose “Charlie Hustle”?
3. Which NCAA player was the first to play in 4 final fours?

Right on the last question.
Hint: 1st answer is outfielder w 300 lifetime BA who batted left handed. His most memorable feat occurred in W Series that he played w broken elbow.
Hint: 2nd answer is pitcher w a team that the outfielder once played for.
Nickname was “Chairman of the Board”
