That was an awesome question. Never would have got it without the hints.

There has been only one NFL player who died on the field. Who was he? OFC

Korey Stringer, the magnificent offensive lineman for the Vikings, died from heat stroke in training camp. If he is the only one, I'm amazed because it is a terribly violent sport. But getting better I think. And I still watch

I should have clarified. This player died on the field during a regular season game. OFC

Not the Giants but Y.A. was traded to the Giants by this team. They traded him to the Giants because they thought he washed up but he had several more productive years. Y.A. of course is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The team that traded him has two more Hall of Fame quarterbacks giving the team 3 Hall of Fame quarterbacks with both others winning Super Bowls and Super Bowl MVP's . OFC

Very good. I've been looking for a Dwight Clark follow-up, but they seem too easy or too difficult. I'll have something shortly

OK. Only Duke fans will know this one. What is the first name of former Duke football coach 'Red' Wilson? Hint: it's unusual, and the same name as a famous Washington DC sports writer

Looking up YA Title's path, when the 49ers drafted him it was actually in a re draft for a defunct pro team (Colts) in the All American football league.

He was originally drafted by the Lions for the NFL, but chose to play for the upstart league that did not survive with the Colts. Upon the Colts collapse he was now back in the NFL draft pool 2 years later, where San Francisco drafted him, and he agreed to play in the NFL.

I did see that he was with the Colts. Kind of threw me and was confussing a little but we I saw that the 49ers had drafted him I knew it was S.F. Little note about Tittle's time in S.F. he had a wide reciever named R. C. Owens who could get up high in the air. Tittle would just throw the ball at a high arch and Owens would out jump everyone for the ball. It was called the " Alley Oop " play. Not sure if the term alley hoop came from that or not. OFC.

This is a tough one but I know there are Duke football fans here that know it but just not posting right now. I"ll give it a little while longer then if no correct answer I will ask a more recent sports question. I apologize sometimes I tend to ask too many back in the day questions. OFC

The answer is Richard McGeorge who since growing up in Elon I had the pleasure of watching play for Elon College at that time belonged to the NAIA. Clint Longley of Dallas Cowboy fame and Wilbert Montgomery of the Eagles both played NAIA and won a national championship while playing for Abileen Christian. Getting back to McGeorge he was a man among boys at Elon. A great pass catching tight end and could have played D1 no doubt about it. He started for the Packers for years after their early Super Bowl championships in a down era for them. I'm gonna try real hard to ease up old questions to far back for anyone to get it correct unless you are as old or older fart than myself. I want my questions to be tough but not impossible to answer. Sorry for those old throw back questions. OFC

New sports question a it could qualify for hart's " a little off season trivia thread "also.
I know we have a lot of Field of Dream fans here and this should be answered fairly quickly providing the right poster sees it. What character in the movie gave this line. " Ty Cobb wanted to play but none of us could stand the son-of- a-***** when we were all alive so we told him to stick it. " OFC

DANG YOU SKY! THAT WAS A PIE QUESTION! OFC

I thought someone like you may know. I'm asking too many hard questions that go way back. Some of our posters have no idea who Chuck Huges was or who Richard McGeorge is. I just have to make my questions more up to date. OFC

Going back to RC Owens. Before hooking up with Y A Title he was not only a football star, but a college basketball star as well .

What all time NBA great was RC Owen's teammate and roommate in college ?

Not KC. It was at a small school out west though. Even smaller then San Francisco with Russell & Jones.

The school actually had to drop basketball, and the star transferred out to star at another small western school. Leading them all the way to the NCAA Championship game.

Owens actually led the nation in rebounding along side this future NBA superstar while playing together.

Elgin Baylor and the University of Seattle. I only saw him very late in his career. I didn't like him nearly as much as his Lakers teammates West and Goodrich. Apparently he was an infinitely better athlete than I saw

Correct. He played with RC Owens at the College of Idaho, before having to transfer and ending up at Seattle.

You're up.

Sorry if this one is a bit tough. Who is the brilliant coach who preceded Mark Few at Gonzaga? He only coached two seasons before going to his home state: University of Minnesota. His record at Gonzaga was 52-17

No. Same first letter. He had an amazing career at difficult outposts like the University of Idaho. He was the top assistant at Michigan State with Magic Johnson

I'm clueless to the Gonzaga part, was trying to remember Minnesota coaches, and Clem Haskins initials don't fit.
