I’m not an expert by any means but my buddy spent $2000 on one and it sucked!
Which one did he get? I've watched a lot of reviews that show those two pretty close to the $20k Trackman systems. Skytrack+ seems to be consistently the closest but I don't have first hand experience like your buddy. Would appreciate it if you could find out which one. I'm getting into paralysis by analysis.

Thinking about Skytrack+ or Mevo, displaying on an iPad and hitting into a net to start. I already have iPad, net and thick hitting mat.
Do some looking at the Square launch monitor. It's got some good reviews. Camera based instead of radar. 600 dollar range. Can chip and putt with it too.

Well he responded very quickly. Opti shot 2.

But if you are spending $20,000 you should be good. Just saying those cheaper ones arent great unless technology has changed a lot in 4 to 5 years.

@Conman90 mentioned the camera versus radar. I think thats what my friend had. Again the technology might have changed some since he had his.

Depends on how serious you are about it and your budget. Modern clubs are better for sure, especially the woods and hybrid rescue clubs.

I am in a similar situation and trying to play more going into my retirement next year or so.

I decided to spend more than I have ever spent in my life all added together.

I went to a place to get my swing evaluated and a lesson in the process. That was $350

Then he fit me my swing to the clubs and what I hit best.

I got Callaway Elyte Driver, 3 and 5 wood... Ping hybrid 3 rescue ... and Taylor made Qi irons.. A Wedge through 5 iron and Taylor Made Sand Wedge - total spent? about $3,800

I didn't even ask the cost, I just ordered them and bit the bullet. It was more than I planned but I survived it.

I am hitting the ball 20 yards farther off the tee and I am hitting a 6 iron 175 yards again. I was not hitting my old 6 iron 160 yards, nor was it as forgiving on off center hits.

Money cannot buy you a game but, you can get clubs suited to your swing.

I will say played my best round ever with a set of Sears Clubs that cost $150 including the bag, irons and woods. I shot 69. I never shot 70 or better again. Today? I am shooting 80-95 depending on penalty strokes that day and improving daily.

Get some cavity back, forgiving irons that are like 5 years old. Get a Taylor Made Sim Max Driver from 2020. Hybrids for your 3 & 4 irons and a modern 3 wood.

Thanks for the feedback and help!

Man it's easy to go down a rabbit hole with this stuff. Just wish I would have spent the hours on golf growing up that I did on baseball. Golf was so foreign to me and way too expensive; I dreaded asking my parents for money to buy new cleats in high school.
