Wow. Did anyone else stick with this show? Because if you did, it truly rewarded itself by the end. As a critic I read today wrote: "turned out to be strangest, saddest, gloomiest -- and most addictively watchable -- TV success story of the entire summer".
It was hard to watch but a great and well done show. The music was always incredible. Always a muted version of a song that would just shock you when you figured it out. Case in point, the finale. I sat there with my wife during one scene and said "isn't this a rock song?" while some violins or cellos were playing. She looked at me like I was crazy. Well, I found my answer today. It was "nothing else matters" by Metallica. Done by 4 guys playing cellos. Freaking amazing and put into the context of the scene, absurdly great... Just like the earlier episode where the preacher went through all of his trials to get the money to save the church. Then, the credits roll and they play "Get me to the church on time". Really a great show. Again, not easy to watch but so well done.
Here is the cello version of "Nothing else matters" for anyone that cares. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-B8k0n_3cs
