I'm not sure what this post is meant to say.
NJ is the 17th most popular state for tourism dollars, with an estimated 2022 total spend of $44 billion.
Some people are unconcerned with facts....in case you haven't noticed.
Agreed Union county is in no way, shape or form in central Jersey.
Yeah I've been there. I had a beach house for 10 years. I've been to other beaches too. NJ is nothing special. If I were out of state further than Philly or NYC I'd be looking elsewhere for the beach experience.
Bingo! I always thought central NJ started on the south side of the Raritan river and went down to roughly the Lakewood/Lakehurst area and ran across the state to the eastern edge of the Delaware river.
It really matters where you lived. I grew up in the Colonia section of Woodbridge and everyone I knew considered all sections of Woodbridge Township to be Central Jersey.
Grew up in EB (which is definitely CNJ). I would say Woodbridge is the northern boundary of CNJ. Going across the state, Bridgewater is also CNJ, but I count Somerset Hills as part of NNJ.
Northern Ocean County was never 609. Toms River, Brick, Point Pleasant, Seaside
Somewhere around Forked River was the beginning of 609. Manahawkin, Long Beach Island and south. Southern Ocean County sure feels like South Jersey and they got only the Philly stations back in the day. In Toms River I always got both NYC and Philly stations so I always felt I was in Central Jersey.
All those 609 towns with Phiily broadcasts got very little Rutgers coverage but plenty of Penn State. Still pisses me off when I am in Atlantic City that the casinos don't seem to know they aren't in f**k**g Pennsylvania.

I know there use to be East and West Jersey. Then it changed to North and South Jersey.
Carteret was a royalist when a challenge was made to the king. His forces on the Isle of Jersey helped sway the outcome. His reward included sections of what became New Jersey and North Carolina. The town of Carteret in Middlesex County and Carteret County N.C. are named after him. Elizabeth (Union County, NJ) is named after his wife. His interests in Africa were responsible for bringing thousands of slaves to North America. Surprised there hasn't been a call to erase his name from those locations. To our modern sensitivities a slave owner is viewed as abhorrent. Shouldn't a slave trader be viewed even more harshly?

I think I got gaslit through a thread merge but I could be wrong. So I think there was another thread with a couple of comments and I called that pointless.
To your point, the legislation is pointless. Don't our elected representatives have more important issues? This is like the nonstop pork roll/Taylor ham debate, which is fun/funny (to some of us), but not worthy of legislation. But if it makes them seem like they are doing something for their constituents, it's OK?
They're including Union and Ocean in Central New Jersey because that makes the county breakdown seven for each of the three regions. Anyone with any sense can see Ocean is South Jersey but that's not what this exercise is about
The bill should divide NJ into wether you call it a Pork Roll Egg and cheese sandwich or Taylor Ham Egg and Cheese sandwich. Both with S/P/K. No ifs ands or buts. Personally I order pork roll egg and cheese. I consider where I live Central NJ in the 609.
How about we call it special meat, egg, and cheese sandwich? This way no one's feelings get hurt.
I could live with Plainfield being a part of Central Jersey
No town in Morris County is CNJ though
I lived in Rahway and considered it North Jersey , but a mile away was Woodbridge Township which most consider CNJ

My point is that Union County isn't Central if Morris County isn't as well. Berkeley Heights, New Providence, Summit all directly border Morris County towns that are west/south of them.
