Desoto County is going nuts in general. A couple of weeks ago channel 5 news was reporting on a police standoff on the Desoto County/Marshall County line. After wasting thousands of tax payers dollars they apprehended some people.............taking target practice in a rural part of the county. It was a big story, and then disappeared after the facts came out.

if you are motivated enough to do something, post it over on Mississippi Gun Owners. There are (at least) two 2A-friendly attorneys that post regularly over there, one from Jackson and one from Oxford. I would post it for you, but I am too lazy to get up to speed on his specifics.

Thanks for the link!

Here's the synopsis:

Guy is working in OB temporarily, going through some kind of flight training (sim). He's been there for almost a month, in the same hotel, staff is familiar with him and his open carry. A Little League event comes to the hotel, little rat bastard kids and their drunk parents are raising hell throughout the hotel, and neither he nor his co-workers can can study or sleep. He goes to the front desk to complain, drunk dad takes umbrage and calls the cops on him, files a falsified report, gets guy arrested...the only thing OBPD can pin on him is Disturbing the Peace". Looks more and more like hotel security video and staff testimony will exonerate the guy, but evidently this guy just got back to work in July after having been laid off since last November and money is tight for him already, now this.

than any country in the world, even though it's the only "first world" country that doesn'tguarantee universal health care for every citizen. Cut down out the middle man (greedy for-profit health insurance companies), and the costs come down dramatically.

That "another new deal" thing he slid in there.. that is code for another stimulus. If it wasn't for the first we wouldn't be talking about default now. Where would that money come from? More borrowing.<div>
</div><div>And the green stuff? I'm sorry but the technology has to catch up to the demand or it is a money pit that will not bear a return. You can implement something that is still in its technological infancy and expect a return from it. Hydrogen is a case in point... great idea... no good way yet to produce it on a mass scale and efficiently on the small scale.</div><div>
</div><div>If you really want to ask yourself what all the fuss is about in cutting spending, set aside some time and go through the reports from the various government agencies. There is billions going out there to just ********. And I mean ********. Eliminate, consolidate, trim, and streamline is how to fix the mess. But you can't find all of it in a month as the government is trying to do. What is going to happen is they are going to take a chainsaw to the side of beef that is the budget. While getting a lot of the fat, they are going to get red meat too. What is needed is a carving knife. But 430+ hands in the house and 100 senators each holding the knife makes that ineffective also.</div><div>
</div><div>Example... one of the canidates for lee county superintendent came by the house and caught me in the yard... after his spill i asked the guy.. how many people are in the central office? He said 33 or 32. I asked him to honestly give an estimate of how many people could run the central office. He said 12 to 15. Of course he said he would trim staff and I faded into which shrub needed more watering while he sounded like Charlie Brown's teacher. Run those numbers at the average staff member making between 35 to 45. It's like that everywhere in government from the city to the fed.</div><div>
</div><div>It's really going to be interesting to see what they come up with and how many accounting tricks are in it to make it look better than it is. But right now they are making it easy to decide when to swap funds in the retirement account with how predictable they are.</div><div>
</div><div>

Then next time follow the 17ing rules and keep politics off this sports board. If you're going to break the rules and bring up politics anyway, you can't get upset when someone has a different opinion than you.

1. Immediately close 10% of all Gov`t agencies
2. Layoff 10% of the employees at the remaining agencies
3. Cut the salaries of the employees that are left 10%

Note: Thiswould just bea start

but you cant cut with an axe. Like wtd said, there is plenty fat to trim; so much that it would take a very long time to do it. They used the axe when passing the budget...might not be a good idea to do it again. Thereare alot of duplication and redundencies in Govt work that could be eliminated.

I understand your point and agree that it can`t be done overnight but damn it`s gotten wasteful.

Does the national debt have to do with the 2nd Amendment? Perhaps I should have been more clear in my OP. I could give a **** about political posts here, and I avoid them here. My intent was for my OP to NOT be a political one or turn into a political thread...especially one that is totally unrelated to the topic at hand. I posted about my topic here because 1) it directly involves Mississippi and 2) because I know that there are a lot of fellow hunters and firearms owners here. I don't give a **** if you have an opinion that differs from mine, but I do give a **** when you pimp an unrelated topic under the guise of "a different opinion" using the rationale that since MaroonInNashville is "breaking the rules" you can make your pitch.
