OT: Tinnitus

Holy 17. I didn’t think it could get worse but this 17en continuous 17ing whining is about to drive me insane. Anyone know of anything short of a bullet that will make it stop.

I’ve got it and as far as I know there’s nothing out there . Mine comes and goes sometimes louder then ever but you get use to it . Took me about 6 months before I didn’t pay attention to it. It sucks, need a new vaccine ��, just kidding..

Sound therapy, pink, white or red noise and hearing aids. Might need a sound generating device to retrain the brain. Find a hearing specialist or audiologist who trained in tinnitus retraining therapy. Use open back headphones.

I’ve had it for over a decade. I knew that there wasn’t a cure but some of y’all are some smart 17ers. It used to be drowned out by other noise but now it drowns out other noise. I really didn’t think that it could get worse but it is 17ing worse today than ever before. SUCKS

I have it as well. At times it worse than others but I too have gotten use to for the most part. Sometimes at night in a dead silent room, my inner head is ringing loudly like I’ve been in DWS on a Saturday night for 10 straight nights.

Feel your pain, man. Turns out sticking my head in innumerable speakers at innumerable rock clubs, and jamming in tiny rooms with giant amps without any ear protection was a BAD idea. Who knew?

I hate it. It sucks. Mine is bad. Daytime with all the day time noise ain’t so bad. Bed time sucks. Get a white noise machine.

If ever there is a cure developed, I’ll sign right up.

I've had it my whole life. I thought it was normal for a long time. The one thing I can't stand is a totally quiet room. It helps to have some background noise. I have to have a noise maker of some kind to sleep.

Not sure how rare this is, but I knew a guy they said his went away when he got his thyroid right.

I’ll often turn the iPhone on to Spotify or Amazon Music.

If it’s really bad, it’s often because of stress or lack of sleep.

I don’t hear as well as I used to especially in places with a lot of background noise. It pisses me off to no end. I’ve started protecting my hearing any chance I can. Don’t have tinnitus yet, but I’m sure it won’t be long. Not sure if it’s age or from shooting with no protection when younger.

Yeah, uh no it doesn't.
Have had in one ear for years. Eventually lost all hearing in that ear, but the ringing continues.
Triggered mainly by
Loud noises
Blood pressure
Too much caffeine.

Gets wierd (and sometimes old) hearing a tune play in your ear in a dead silent room.

So no more concerts.
When kids were playing spots, had to wear earplugs in the gym. Does seem better the last year or 2.

It sounds like I have a Locust on each ear lobe. Sometimes worse than others. I’ve found nothing that helps

Mine actually quit after about 15-20 years. One day I just realized that the ringing was gone. No idea how long it had been gone.

For me I saw a noticeable difference when I went keto. I’m thinking as my BP drops it reduces.

I have it and it is constant. I'm actually rated for it by the VA. I sleep in earplugs (the pressure in my ears seems to mitigate to buzzing), I sleep with "Brown Noise" from Alexia turned up high, it drowns out the ringing. Make hearing the other party on a cell phone much more difficult.

I have had it for years. It’s a terrible thing and compounds my hearing loss. I now sleep with a CPAP machine and that makes it worse. My advice don’t shoot without ear protection, or run a chain saw without it. Turn the music down and wear ear plugs to Scott Field. I have been going to our games for almost 60 years and I am sure that it has really had an impact on my hearing. I pull my plugs out once in awhile when we score and enjoy it for a minute but then put them right back in. Severe hearing loss is a terrible thing and I wish that I had been more careful over the years.

The company that I worked for had yearly hearing test but as the manager I wasn’t required to take them and frankly never had the time either. A few years before I retired I decided to take the hearing test so I sit down and put the earphones on. About half way through the test the tester just reaches and turns off the machine. He kinda laughed and said we are just wasting time. He proceeds to tell me that I’m right handed and have shot a LOT of guns and described perfectly my hearing limitations. I can’t even understand a phone conversation in my left ear anymore.

As a fellow poster said it comes and goes at times. When I was working on the flight line at NAS North Island and MCAS Miramar in San Diego, I had to take annual hearing tests. On test day, I would schedule early morning and would not have any music from the stereo on while driving to work. I would put ear plugs as soon as I got up for work. The ear plugs only came off when I started my hearing loss test. All this minimized the ringing before the test. BTW many times I would wear ear plugs and ear cancellation phones when things would get crazy on the flight line. F/A-18s and F-35s get very loud. I am retired now and the ringing does not occur as often because I limit my noise exposure. All you can do is limit noise exposure and slow down the process.

My wife kicks me when I let go with the brown noise.

Army basic training, years of hunting with shotguns and rifles, even more years of target shooting. All without any ear protection. My ears have buzzed for so long I don't even notice it unless I think about it. Also deaf as a post.

Sounds funny, but of all the sound machine options in Alexa/Amazon (white noise, pick noise, etc.) brown is the one that works best for me.

Had it for 50 years at least, you can get used to it. It is trying at times. When I was 5 they put me in an audio booth and told me to push the button when I heard a tone. I just held down the button.

I think the retraining therapy has merit. Only one time do I remember not having my "friend". Spent 10 hours on a charter boat, the turbo whine from the diesels were at the same frequency as my tinnitus. Next day woke up with no tinnitus. Came back over the next few days.

Hands over ears and snapping the crap out of the back of your head works for a bit, but it is very temporary.
