I live in a western mountain town that sees a couple of million summer tourists each season. I work at two different popular, touristy restaurants. Very frequently I see SEC shirts/gear on people but have yet to see anyone with a State hat/ shirt on. I see a LOT of LSUs, many Bamas and Georgias, and more than few Ole Miss. But never State. Why?

Our tractors won't get us that far. No need to leave your own county anyway.

I think the answer to your question is based on the size of the fanbase. Most of the teams you name have a non-alumni fanbase larger than the alumni fanbase. MSU fanbase is just smaller.

San Diego back during 2005-2006. I never saw an Ole Miss person but I did see an Ole Miss bumper sticker at a USD/Drake football game.

So scheduled a lesson. I walk out with my instructor and clip into my skis, look at his name tag, and dude was from Starkville, MS. State Alum too...
I'm like, htf do you know how t ski?

Saw a dude in front of notre dame cathedral in Paris. I hadnt been there four, hours. I said something to him, but he was a euro, that had visited or something.

To be honest, I don't wear MSU gear around much on vacations...

..I saw an old man wearing a Mississippi State cap walking along the beach. I asked him where he got it, and he said he didn't know.

Dont live out west but ski every winter and have vacationed several times in the summer to ski towns. Asked a couple people that worked at Moe's (Alabama BBQ joint) in Vail and they all said they have met MSU fans/alum. May be that the majority of our fan base hasnt had a reason to wear school garb in the past and also as already stated that our numbers of grads just arent as high as some of other schools mentioned.

Had lunch at Moe's in Vail on Tue and had MSU garb on. Ran into another dawg also wearing MSU cap.

And IMHO Moe's is one of the top places to eat in Vail!

Let me know what mountain town you are in and I will make sure I have MSU garb on when I'm there. I have worn MSU since moving out here in 2007 - and have worn it to Aspen, Beaver Creek, Vail, Telluride, Park City, Durango, and a lot of other places. PM me your location and I'll look you up.

Williamsburg VA, I run into SEC fans a lot. Seems like I run into a State fan with shirt or hat every other month. Ran into the Florida Girls BB team when they were in thearea last fall. Had a nice conversation with their coach and 'kindly requested that they look for a head football coach not named Dan Mullen."

Would add that Virginia is a lot closer to Starkville than Colorado.

The Minturn Country Club! That is my favorite place to eat of all time. Maybe its because we spend too much time across the street at the Saloon beforehand or maybe its the people I've been with but the Steak can't be beat. Yes, I did get the Kobe on one visit, but in that setting, the Ribeye is king.
