Been a hot take kind of day so figured I'd keep it going.

Are we sure LAA wouldn't be better off trading Trout?
What exactly are the Angels getting out of that 12y/$430m contract?

2019 Los Angeles Angels
72-90 .444
4th in AL West (35 games back)

I respect this I'll say that but in nk way shape or form is the overrated. He's the best baseball player of this generation hands down.

3 career playoff games.
Resigned for 433m with a team that had zero chance of competing.

More expensive Machado.
At least Harper went to a competitive team in Philly.

What do any of those things have to do with how good he is at playing baseball? Lol no player who doesnt pitch can turn a pretender into a contender. If you put Joe Dimaggio on the Orioles they would still be horrendous.

You realize his team has sucked since hes been in the league right? The Angel's are wasting his career.

He just chose to resign there for 12y/433m (100m more than Harper).

Cant blame the team.
Sounds like Trout values money over winning.
Just like Machado going to SD.

That may be true but doesn't change the fact that he is this generations Mickey Mantle.

Overrated? No way- he’s the best player in the league and a once in a generation talent. But you could make the case that he isn’t the MVP because his team would be just as bad without him.

Trout is easily the best player in baseball. If you don’t know that, you should watch other teams besides the Yankees or Mets every now and again. It’s actually not close either.

He’s the best player in baseball. But giving him the MVP is a joke. As stated, his team would be just as bad without him.

The Angels are a big market team. They should be spending like it and be much more successful than they are. They also do a horrendous job at identifying young talent as their minor league system blows.

Trout is the best player in baseball right now but that doesn't make him the most valuable player .There needs to be a correlation between player performance and its impact on team results. There needs to be a clear definition of most valuable player because some voters chose for Trout as the best player.

I agree I never said he was the MVP. He's the best player of this generation hands down.

He’s the closest to a Mickey Mantle prototype in MLB these days.

And I never thought I’d see that again in my lifetime.

Yes, Trout is overrated. First ballot HOF'er, but not a legendary player that ESPN tries to push him as.

Wow. Now loyalty is an undesired trait.

Loyalty is absolutely a desirable trait.
Loyalty is also easier when you get 433m (100m more than anyone else).

I don't mind him getting 433m (100m more than anyone else) but then you cant argue "but the team..."

He had a chance to leave and stayed for 433m.

He grew up a Phillies fan. The Phillies signed Harper and they wouldnt have been able to sign both of them.
Not true. They specifically structured Harper's deal to have the flexibility to sign more stars, and it was presumed they had Trout in mind specifically. Harper said so in his introductory press conference.

So using the rationale that his team doesn’t win Ted Williams and Ernie Banks must have sucked

Who said sucked?

Ironic you mentioned Ernie Banks.
I believe the only other player to win multiple MVPs on teams with under .500 records.

The OP makes no sense at all. And a single position player does not make a winning MLB team. OP should also google the list of HOF players that never played in a WS before making such a dumb statement.

You give credit to Harper for leaving a team that clearly could compete for a division rival, but not the guy who stays with the franchise that drafter him? Absurd.

Credit for staying with a team “wasting away his career? For staying for 433m (100m more than any other player)?
Not really.

Had no idea everyone was cool with the “greatest player of the generation” appearing to have zero interest in actually winning.

Maybe it’s a millennial thing?
Just put up your great individual stats and collect regular season MVPs but avoid any actual playoff baseball.
