Not sure how I screwed up my algorithm, but I am being fed a bunch of stuff providing Iran war "news" basically claiming that the US is suffering defeat after defeat in the middle east and that all of our bases in the region are being severely damaged and it will take years if not decades to recover. Seems to be much worse on Threads, which I don't really "use" but will occasionally click on from Facebook, but it appears to be all crazy people and/or bots, although some of that is probably my fault for clicking on ridiculous things just to see what the crazies are saying.

I don't know how much of it is just bots talking back and forth with each other, I assume the vast majority of it, but I do think there are probably plenty of anti-us people, both citizens and otherwise, that are happy to believe that we are being destroyed in the current conflict and our "right wing" mainstream media is just covering for orange man bad. Curious as to whether anybody else sees this stuff? Or the equivalent on a different topic? Or have I uniquely screwed up my algorithm? Also, any of you software people want to create some bots to start a bunch of twitter discussion about how MSU went undefeated in football in 2025 and won the national championship? THat's the kind of self delusion I could get behind.

Sometimes the setting resets where it's not loading chronologically. You just have to go back in and manually set it.

If you click that you want to see only who you are "Following", you won't see that miscellaneous crap. If you leave it on "For You", you will see what they want you to see................see screenshot below.

Glfr will be along shortly to write a thesis that sums up to everything is working as intended

You're algorithm has definitely been compromised. Russian and Iranian bots working overtime.

I'm getting lots of sunshine pumping, but that's probably not right either.

It's still way early. Trump'll get out before it becomes a slog, but honest, no-spin, assessments of the overall damage may be weeks, months away.

I asked for a list of the groups that protested against the Israeli attacks on Hamas & the response is below, so I assume you think they are all Nazis.

Major Organizations and Coalitions
  • ANSWER Coalition (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism): A central organizer of major rallies, often collaborating with other anti-Zionist groups.
  • Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP): A network with over 200 campus chapters, leading walkouts and encampments at universities nationwide.
  • Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP): A Jewish anti-Zionist organization that has held major direct-action protests, including sit-ins at federal buildings.
  • Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM): A grassroots organization active in organizing demonstrations in major cities.
  • Within Our Lifetime (WOL): A group focused on "Free Palestine" advocacy, particularly active in New York.
  • Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL): A far-left organization heavily involved in organizing anti-Israel protests.
  • U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR) & American Muslims for Palestine (AMP): Key advocacy groups supporting the demonstrations.

Your experience, confusion, and frustration is definitely shared by many others.
Best I can tell- dont use Twitter for news collection. Its like using Facebook for news collection. The amount of total BS is out of control high. Straight up lies- made up stuff that is AI created, misidentifying incidents that not only arent from the event you are reading about but also not even from the same decade, and then a steady stream of disinformation is sprinkled in with the misinforation and lies.

Twitter as a news source is worse than useless. If it were useless, it wouldnt do the damage to society and trust that it has done.
This isnt the Twitter of 15 years ago where the Arab Spring was being reported on in real time.
The Twitter of 2026 is pure trash as a news source and belongs in the garbage alongside Facebook.

If that platform is working as intended, then people should be furious with Musk and not use the platform. Nobody should look at 2026 Twitter and think 'yeah, thats working great'.

A while ago I stopped following political accounts and just added a few to a private Politics list. It makes my Following list a little cleaner, and lets me avoid politics unless I explicitly check the list.

X and Facebook, etc are really good for exposing idiots who automatically believe anything that fits their world view. Unfortunately, there are lots of idiots out there and they vote.

You can absolutely get news and information from Twitter or any social media platform but you can’t be an idiot about it either. Twitter is great for following the commodity markets. I don’t follow people on Twitter for their political opinions. I follow for things that involve my livelihood…markets, weather, and well sports too.

It’s all in how you use. Bless your heart that you can’t figure it out.
