Does Ole Miss's lower grand stands (not including the bowled in endzone) actually hold more people than State's lower grandstands? They look to be the same size, but Davis wade is listed as holding 32,000 (1983-1985) prior to the addition of our first upper deck, while Ole Miss is listed as 42,500 (1980–1984) during the same time period before they bowled their endzone in. Is their stadium curved like Michigans where it holds more people or something? Some pictures for comparison...

Reason I ask is that with our lower decks and new endzone being virtually equal to theirs, you would think our upper decks would push our capacity well above theirs since they don't have upper decks. Like by at least 5 or 10K..... As it stands we only have about a thousand more seats than them officially. I know they have some high school bleachers in the other endzone whereas we don't, but I wouldn't think that more than a few thousand fans could fit down there. Are we undercounting, or are they over-counting? Or do my eyes just deceive me because of Vaught Hemingway's lack of upper-decks?

Their south endzone has a lot more capacity than our north endzone. I'd wager that their SEZ holds almost 14,000.

Based on wikipedia numbers, we can calculate the capacity of each section of our stadium.

E+W lower decks (without club level or chairbacks): 32,000
W chairbacks + W upper deck: 8,656
E club level + skybox + upper deck: 12,228
North endzone: 8,453

These numbers are rough and don't take into account getting better numbers when reevaluating the capacity after each phase (32,000 is a little too round).

Someone more knowledgeable about the order they built VHS will have to run the numbers on that place.

The east side grandstands at DWS were expanded north and south at some point. I don't know when that happened, though... Perhaps when they built the upper deck on the west side?

They have had the large end zone bleachers in both end zones since 1980

yeah, vhs lower bowl looks to be (based on my random guesstimation) roughly 15% larger than our lower bowl. if they ever were to expand to an upper deck, those seats would be really far from the field....as in 15% farther than ours and ours are pretty far.

Back in the early 80s our lower bowl had more capacity. Now, their lower bowl goes up about 65-70 rows. Ours, below west chairback and club level, has 59-60 rows.

Back in the early 80s Their sideline seats went up about 40 rows. Ours 59-60. But they had the endzone seats that we did not. Also our east side Stopped at the goal line. Theirs went to the back of the endzone. Therefore the difference of 33 and 42.

So in the mid 80s our west quarter deck and west upper deck and east side expansion (to back of endzone) was done and matched their capacity.

Then sometime in there they expanded their west side up (late 80s?). Then they expanded their east side up (97?)To put them around 50k.

We expanded our east side up and added endzone bleachers to go from 40 to 55 (00s). They expanded the Southendzone to go to 60 (05?) Then we expand the north to go to 60.

All this based on memory. But that is real close to the history.

Yeah I would say their "home side" of the bowl looks to be significantly larger than either of our lower bowl sides. Didn't realize the proportions were so different on Vaught Hemingway's original grandstands.

Actually Scott Field capacity was called 35,000 back in the 60s and 70s. I always wondered where the 3,000seats went when LT began calling it 32,000.

We had some bleachers in the end zones back in the 60s and 70s. The bleachers were taken out in 1982.
