According to the October 23, 1980 Targum, Fenton Turck was a trustee of the Holland Society in 1927 and the descendant of Pascasius Turck, the private physician of the Prince of Orange. He was enamored of a 2,000 pound statue of the Prince while visiting the Netherlands, bought it, and transported it back to New York. By that time, Turck decided it would be prudent if his wife didn’t find out about the purchase. Turck met Rutgers trustee Leonor Loree and together they arranged to have the Holland Society donate William The Silent to Rutgers in honor of the school’s Dutch heritage. Turck’s wife attended the dedication ceremony at Rutgers College graduation in 1928 but never found out Willie’s background story.
Heh, heh. heh.
Now, can anyone identify the name of the dog that sits near Willie's right leg on the pedestal? Did you ever notice there
is a dog as part of the statue while you walked by WIllie all those years?
