Karl, I bought my dad a 7mm mag model 700 back in 1982. We were standing around

after a hunt one day and he had the rifle slung on his back and the damn thing went off. Freaked everyone out at the time, he took a lot of crap for it. The dates on the recall don't look like they apply to my gun but I have seen on 60 minutes where there have been many lawsuits over 700 models over the years with this issue. Do you know if there were other recalls that would have covered my purchase?

No I don't, but yes, that is a different deal entirely

On my gun going back, ..it is just a little light triggered for me, so I'm gonna let em work on it.

If I don't like it then, I'll put a Timney or Jewell trigger in it.

If they had a recall on that gun, it will still be listed on their main site.

I'm not a gun person ... is Remington a good brand to buy?

I asking because Remington is going to open a manufacturing plant in Huntsville, employing about 2,000. Just wondering if they'll make a quality product. I know it's been around forever.

Remington is about like every other manufacturer

The have some really good products, and some that aren't so great.
They have in recent years bought out some other gun mfg cos. and did a bit of damage to those brands in the process.

ie:

They bought Marlin Firearms...and I think pulled up stakes on the Marlin plant, and just started making Marlins.

Marlin has a good reputation, especially in their lever guns. Remington damaged that reputation...I think they have now gotten
that situation ironed out but there is a period of THOSE Marlins, that need to be avoided.

Do it. I got a conference call about it tomorrow so hopefully I'll have more details.
