So quite a while ago I switched over to Accuweather as weather.com (aka the Weather Channel) had become full of themselves in a number of ways. I like to look at the daily forecast just to get an idea of the trends; you can see the next week or 10 days for whatever location you're checking. Today, though, when I look I find out that Accuweather has changed it where they're showing a blurb for each day that takes up about 40% of the vertical space, and they are showing the daily forecast out for one and a half months. Months! What moron there really thought this was a good idea.

I like the NWS that you can set to your local zip:

I’m a complete weather geek who relies on my own research when it comes to planning outdoor activities.
The timing and path of obvious catastrophic storms and nor easters is all I use them for.
48 hours is all they’re in the ball park for, what a joke!

I use the accuweather app and it looks just like it has

You have the option to see the forecast by days or month view.

I like weather apps as they give me some idea of what the weather will be. I realize that predicting weather is an imperfect science because well it’s nature and not governed by laws of man. I’m glad we have them or otherwise I would be flying completely blind which of course is worse than being wrong sometimes and right other times.

Weather.com aka The Weather Channel looks the same to me. I like the hourly component that it has, covers 48hours. Also very detailed for wind speed and directions which is important to cyclists when planning a long ride.

I used to love "Dark Sky" app but it suddenly disappeared late last year. Accuweather is OK but not as good IMO

Weather.com is still perfectly fine for basic info (which is all you need most of the time). Accuweather's website blows for many reasons, including the one you just mentioned.

Since Dark Sky went away (got absorbed by Apple Weather?), I've been using the Windy.com app on my phone most of the time. The weather radar and satellite views are very good - same with hour by hour temp and wind info.

Weather.gov for me.

Use weather.com for hourly because .gov has a bunch of graphs and tables I don't need just to check if I should bring a jacket.

If one wants a high level overview of the next few days or wants to know the current conditions and any imminent weather threats, most of the apps are fine, but for a detailed forecast for the short/medium term (up to 7-8 days), the NWS is the best, as they have meteorologists dedicated to weather forecasting in every region.

Most of the local media outlets that have dedicated meteorologists for the area are generally pretty good, too, although some are better than others. I will also say that The Weather Channel (on-air version) has improved by leaps and bounds over the past 4-5 years, with a slew of very well-respected experts in nearly every weather area, who break down and explain/forecast major weather events quite well.

However, any specific forecast beyond about 7-8 days is generally a load of poo, as has been discussed on this board many times since AccuWeather came out with their 45-day forecasts about 10 years ago (and they're up to 90 days now, which is moronic). The meteorological community has unanimously laughed at these predictions and below is a link to one of my favorite takedowns of them, by the Capital Weather Gang.

Having said that, one can predict general climate trends of below normal/normal/above normal for temps and precip out to about a month with modest accuracy (better than guessing, but these are also sometimes badly wrong, especially on precip) and beyond that with a bit of accuracy, but it's nearly impossible to predict what one specific day is going to bring 20, 40, 60+ days out. Whenever I do those cold/warm/snowy type trend threads for 2-4 weeks out, the temperature trends usually verify quite well but the snow/precip trends verify less well (but still better than random guessing).

I use the Rutgers Football message board to get my weather news. :)

Lots of good information here.

During extreme weather events (like impactful snow storms) I absolutely come here. Despite what a few trolls say I appreciate the input, info and links that #s provides

Regarding apps I use WeatherBug - I like the simple interface . Gives the info and maps in a way that I like. I used to use the weather channel one but found it slow/clunky
