The Rib Shack in Greenwood, MS. It's a shack, that sells BBQ, ribs, rib tips etc., there are no seats, no inside for that matter. It's some of the best BBQ I've had. The rib tips are heavenly.

I guess I'm the only one who actually likes the 'Vous

Plus their BBQ nachos at Redbirds games are tits. I assume they're still the vendor?

Regardless, I don't get ribs there, so maybe that's why, but I love their shoulder plate. Their dry rub and sauce is awesome. And the sausage and cheese plate great, not to mention possibly the best atmosphere of any restaurant anywhere. Yes, I like the pitchers of beer and paper cups with a sausage and cheese plate upstairs before heading downstairs for some Q.

Though I agree Central is the best from a pure Q standpoint, I still eat at the Rendezvous every time I'm in town.

Same. I love The Little Dooey.

Especially the pulled pork. I cant take anyone seriously who claims to prefer that fatty mess at Petty's.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Payne's in Memphis

Payne's is known throughout the country by BBQ aficionado's as the secret spot in Memphis for a pork sammich. They are the real deal without the hype and ********. However, you have to go down to a rough part of Lamar to pick one up. Well worth the risk....good que that is not masked with a bunch of sauce and seasoning.

Central BBQ is decent but their food is over-seasoned, in my opinion. I do like their BBQ nachos. I have ordered BBQ chicken from Central that was not edible because it had too much seasoning. Has always been hit or miss for me. The owner is a good guy though.

Rendezvous ain't hittin' on nothin'. The focus of their current advertising campaign is that they have gone green with their eating utensils and plates and that their garbage disposal is more energy efficient. Someone needs to tell Vergos no one gives a ****. His BBQ has gone green too. I ate there about 3 years ago and it sucked. They used to be known for service too but that has gone to **** as well. The only reason I have to go in there now is to show people a picture of my great-grandad that is on the wall.

I have been buying my BBQ lately from the Tops near Summer-Highland. They are pretty consistent and not too expensive...and close to my office. Very tasty que and good burgers as well.

You can't beat Tops for a party.

You can feed an army for dirt cheap if you buy the party packs. Their burger isn't bad either...

Most Tuscaloosa folks eat at Archibalds. I think they are Kin with the Dreamland people. When I was there we ate Archibalds

No they dont. Ive eaten there dozens of times just as well as eating dreamland dozens of times and the least crowded dreamland visit had more people than the mosy crowded archibalds visit

My favorite bbq in Memphis is The BBQ shop on Madison. Memphis BBQ company is very solid as well.

Rendezvous is living on its past history and the fact that it has a unique yet very convenient location.

My stomach can't handle the sauce

I don't know what it is about their sauce but it is way too heavy. I am glued to the commode all morning if I consume that stuff.

But, lots of people love it here.

Rendezvous went downhill when mr Charlie's health went down and I think he passed away several years ago. He knew my grandad and they used o go hunting together back in the day.

The memphis BBq company is good and is a breath of fresh air from the other horrible places along Goodman.

I'm surprised I haven't seen a mention of Tom's on new Getwell rd in Memphis. it looks like a shack from the outside but damn those rib tips are the bomb. I walked in there one day a few years ago for some more and there were pictures of Guy Fieri with the owner talking about them. Evidently it was on Diners Drive In's and Dives some time ago.

I've always been a huge Lil Dooeys fan, but the experience has gotten worse and worse each time I go back.

It's definitely not as awesome as it used to be.

Memphis BBQ Co has very good ribs. I like spare ribs and theirs are phenominal. The BBQ shrimp and grits are great too.

I don't think they would have gotten much of a check from that building. They were going to have to rebuild further back on their property anyway with the Highway 57 expansion, the fire just sped up the process.

I did hear they cooked the meat they had when it burned and gave it away because it was going to spoil anyway. That was nice of them.

I've long thought Leatha's food was better when it was in Foxworth...

...maybe there's something to be said about location, travel, and anticipation.

Tom's was one of my favorite places until Memphis Barbecue Co opened. I agree with DCD about spare ribs and Memphis Barbecue Co.

If you eat there and have never had the Memphis Peacemaker I recommend you try it. One layer of brisket, one layer of pulled pork. I've never been able to finish that sandwich in one sitting, and that says a lot. Anyone that's met me can tell I don't eat small portions.

Leatha's BBQ

is a lot better than The Shed to me. We had a Shed here for a few months and it didn't last.

Although it has been 15 years, my favorite is Brian's in Clute, Texas. I've had most on the list in this thread. But my preference is Texas BBQ > Memphis BBQ >>>> Carolina BBQ.

I haven't been to Leatha's since they moved to H'burg, but when they were in Foxworth I always considered their ribs the best I had ever had.
