being honored at the Trump/Kennedy Center?

The Who got in when W was President - (NOT AMERICANS)

Led Zeppelin in when Obama was President - (AGAIN, NOT AMERICANS!)

The Eagles in when Obama was President - (Californians?)

U2 in when Biden was President - (Bloody Irish!)

The Grateful Dead when Biden was a BRAIN DEAD President - (California again)

Why are pundits complaining about KISS being somehow 'unworthy'? Answer me that!

Post your favorite KISS song too. (Carr was their best drummer - by far!)

When I was 5 I had a Gene Simmons poster, but I put it inside my closet so I could close the door at night because the first night I tried to go to sleep with it on my wall, it scared me, at least that is what my Mom told me. Also Vinnie Vincent looks like Elena Douglas now.

From the ages of about 6 to about 16, I loved KISS. Seen them multiple times live. Maturity brings a bit more discernment. The difference is right there in your list. Look at your list. Then look at KISS. They are not the same. I still like and respect KISS, but they are not the same as the others. However, I have no problem with them being honored at the Kennedy Center. They had a YUGE cultural impact.

Maybe because KISS' music isn't that great?

Kiss is great but I’m not a super fan by any stretch and just like any band that has lasted several decades they aren’t even close to being as good now as they were when they first blew up. Weirdest part to me is that Gene is bald af and still chooses the shittiest wig ever.

Lick it up is my all time fave simply for the opening lyric alone. “Don’t wanna wait til you know me better.”

I don’t know if I should be outraged or defend KISS being recognized.
Looks like I will continue to leave this off my radar.

You already know the answer. They're going to complain about every little, single thing Trump does. He is dead on right about most things and they damn well know it but they have to refute everything he does or face the wrath of the lefty loonies that are holding the party hostage. The only exception thus far has been John Fetterman.

With that said, KISS is a legendary band. Yeah, there's better music and some of their hits are a bit cheesy but there's no denying that they are one of the greatest rock bands of their time and probably have the best live shows that you would ever see. From mid to late seventies there wasn't a bigger band on the planet.

Someone clearly doesn’t want to Rock and Roll all Night and Part of Every Day.
they are kinda like Marshall Henderson. Hell yeah I want to be there when the party is on the court and its rolling. Afterwards, God no. Nothing to do with him.

I personally think KISS sucks. But I can also recognize that they sold a **** ton of records and are popular. So I don't have an issue with them being recognized.

I think they should sing "Love Gun" at the ceremony, just so all the blue hairs can be offended.

The makeup gimmick to cover up how bad their music sucks should be reason alone to never honor them.

Don't think it's a KISS original but I always loved New York Groove.

It was not original. In fact, the group didn't release a cover, but Ace Frehley did on his most successful solo album, when the original group broke up.

The original was done by the early GLAM Band named 'Hello.' Frehley's cover is basically note for note. Most folks couldn't tell them apart.

It's no War Machine.

So, you're saying and your weed buddies listen to a lot of Dead.
No, I can’t stand the Dead and I don’t do drugs. KISS‘s music just isn’t that great. I’ve owned a few of their albums too. I grew up in that era.

Technically New York Groove was not a Kiss song. It was originally done by a band called Hello, and Ace Frehley covered it on a solo record.

But I like his version of the song too.

Kiss is noteworthy as the first band that I'm aware of that really pushed their marketing to the extreme. They got more play out of being shocking (for the 70s) than anything else.

I don't hate their music but it's not super complicated and there are a TON of other contemporary bands that were much better.

Having said that, I've heard most of their songs. I grew up listening to them in the 80s with my friends and they were a juggernaut in their day. No reason not to include them in the conversation of BIGGEST bands ever and honor them as such.

Some people just need to get laid more often.

I grew up with KISS.

17 Music Critics.

The biggest problem is that you're listening to critics. Critics all loved Elvis Costello back in the 80s because they looked so much like him. They used to love to hammer Journey. That should tell you all you need to know.
Tried to Google and confirm but couldn't find it so I might just be imagining but I would swear I read a comment from Rob Thomas that "cool bands don't make money" in an interview when they were baiting him if MB20 had "sold out". Got a chuckle out of it and think about that every time the "sell out/not cool/critics say" topic comes up. Seems even REM got caught up in it when Losing My Religion blew up.

KISS came out and were in heavy rotation in the dorm during my days at State. Primarily for cranking up while getting ready to go out. Most took them for what they were, simply high energy, banging R&R showmen. Borderline stupid but entertaining. Thinking back, never actually owned a KISS album.

Couple buddies and I drove down to see them at the MS Coliseum (looks like it must have been Dec 76), walked in and it was the 3 of us and what seemed like 10,000 teen age girls. A little uncomfortable but the show was good best I remember.

I think of KISS Alive! when the subject comes up. Introduced the band playing at my daughters wedding with ... You wanted the best, and you got it! The hottest band in the land .....! (at least a few there got the reference🤷‍♂️) and this picture. Those 2 must always win the "share something interesting about your self" when ever it comes up in a group or otherwise.

The makeup gimmick is to cover up how dog arse ugly they were/are naturally. Paul Stanley had microtia and a speech impediment. His right ear was basically a deformed lump of cartilage, so the long hair and face paint was to hide his ear and the faces that you see below in the rarely seen "lick it up" video.

They didn't go without makeup again for a LONG time after that. Stanley had surgery on his ear in 1982 after they made a good bit of money. Now you know why Simmons always wears shades and a wig now.

To their credit, they did work hard and pushed out lots of records. Simmons recently sold his house and is apparently running low on cash and working to get more asap. Would not be shocked to know that he slipped Trump a cool million to buy the Kennedy award. Sadly, the band brand is all he has in his life now.

Gene Simmons is the George Lucas of the music world, with a less compelling product, when it comes to licensing & marketing.
