What about CASUAL DINING in Jackson?

Anyone got any new ideas for a good place to go with a group of guys that isn't upscale but has a cool, laid back atmosphere and food that isn't that pricy? I'm thinking like the Starkville equivalent of Stagger Inn, or maybe the Tupelo equivalent of Blue Canoe or Romies.

I've tried these but am looking for new ideas:
Soulshine
Burgers and Blues
Keifer's

Anyone tried Georgia Blue? What's their atmosphere like?

For casual, I like Amerigo. I've been to Georgia Blue and wasn't impressed, but I'm in the minority on that.

Soulshine out on Lakeland is a cool place, too. Really like the new space out there.

Speaking of service, I've given Sal&Mookies and Underground 119 enough chances. Never again.

Best lunch place in Jackson is the Beatty St Grocery; however, if you get caught up in "health code regulations" (or health in general) don't go there.

The 3 or 4 times i have been to the Polar Bear (Parlor) Market, the service has been terrible and the food overpriced for what you get, but business was brisk.

I second Local 463, and it is the same folks as Walker's

I took my wife to Local 463 in Madison(it's the same owners as Walker's I believe) and I thought it was great.

And if she wants to really live the lifestyle, get her the bone-in ribeye at Shapley's............... Guys.

I think it is a little more upscale, or just has a little bit broader menu, specials, and wine list. Right now it's tops on my list.

Walker's or it's sister 463 in Madison. Ticos is great and so is Shapley's for steak. Ely's too. All are always good. Walker's is always great. Get the tamales...

I pass it everyday coming home from work at around 7:30 pm and the entire parking lot is packed. John really has a huge following. I also remember taking a date to the original Cerami's that is now Shuckers on Conastoga Road at the reservoir. He closed it about 1990 or so and spent the next few years working on his limo service and other ventures. When he reopened in Flowood it was. A blast from the past. I love going there because the people are so damn friendly and all the Italian families from all over central MS congregate there at night. Sometimes you walk in and you feel like you just walked into a mafioso gathering. Johns dad is the old guy that greets you at the door and always complements you on how nice your girlfriend/wife/date looks.

Heading to NOLA this weekend, I have reservations at Le Petite Grocery, Herbsaint, and Cochon..

Damn, that's a badass lineup. Since you appear to be a fan of Chef Link, he just opened a new seafood restaurant called Peche. On Magazine, I believe.

I've been to Georgia Blue once and really enjoyed it. I'd recommend that or Burgers and Blues off country line for a casual dining. And don't forget Cherokee.

Overall a place I really like and haven't seen mentioned in Strawberry Cafe in Madison.

Other cities have a culture of professional wait staff who see it as a career. That is not the case in Jackson.

Hooters

It's just off I-55. They have hot wings and fried dill pickles...and save room for the chocolate cake. It's reasonably priced. If I had to give it a formal description, I'd say it's delightfully tacky, yet unrefined.

Burger's and Blues has a good atmosphere with the deck. Georgia Blue is ok, too... food was nothing spectacular, though.

As far as some other casual spots, Babalu in Fondren has awesome guacamole made tableside, and their shrimp or seared tuna tacos are excellent. The seared tuna taco is one of my favorite dishes at any restaurant in the Jxn area. Jaco's Taco's on State Street by Hal and Mal's is great, as well. It has a great atmosphere as well.

I've been twice to Eslava's Grill on Lakeland and its awesome. The chef is from Columbia and they do pasta, steaks and Latin American stuff. It was BYOB when we went which is a "big big plus"

Walker's or 463. Derek ,the owner and chef, is doing things that no other restaurant in the area is doing. Right now though both restaurants are getting soft shells in almost daily and are some of the best there are anywhere.
