OT: Why do people have such hatred for Apple products?

I mean, damn, they make a GREAT product and it's really that simple. I was just reading an article about predictions for tomorrow's iPhone 5 and when reading the comments after the article...you'd think it was Ole Miss vs State. There's some vicious comments towards Apple and this just boggles me.

What say you?

Apple has done some great things and certainly pushed a whole lot of electronic improvements into the hands of consumers.

On the other hand, Apple has become more style than substance in many areas, often a reflection of the hipster-artsy crowd so infamous for being apple users. Personally, I don't buy apple products because a) I like flash, and b) you can get much MUCH more for your money elsewhere.

Apple has rammed **** down every ones throat.
I have been dealing with ATT/Cingular for about 12 years.
It is their way or the highway. ...And Jobs has forced that issue.

The thing I actually think Apple does best is with personal computers. I have to deal with PCs at work and it makes me want to bang my head against the wall. I will say this, the PCs have gotten a little better, but still no where near the pricey iMac (and I know it's pricey).

I don't buy their products because their stuff is usually a lot more expensive than their competitors. For instance, most of the top rated Droid tablets are at least $200 less than the iPads. I also prefer open source environments over environments that are as locked down as theirs are. On top of that, iTunes is the worst piece of software I've ever tried to use.

<div>Granted, I'm typing this from a Macbook, so obviously it doesn't bother me too much.</div><div>
</div><div>Examples:</div><div>-"I'm a (young) Mac. And I'm a(n old, nerdy) PC." If Windows released a new, incompatible OS and practically un-upgradable hardware as often as Apple did, the PC would be much younger.</div><div>-"If you don't have an iPhone, you don't have ... an iPhone" Status symbol bs reserved for inferior products.</div><div>-"I plug in my Mac and it just ... works" Except when it doesn't. Then you're screwed.</div><div>-"Macs don't have viruses" Call me back when you have a market share a hacker would waste his/her time on.</div><div>
</div><div>Also, after all the hell that MS caught in the 90s about being a Monopoly, Apple is built to be a monopoly with the tight grip they have on compatible software, media formats, etc.</div><div>
</div><div>All that to say ... any hell they catch they've brought it on themselves. Their strategy has obviously been working for the most part.</div>

It is that simple. You get what you pay for. I don't give a damn if it cost a good bit more. When I turn the damn thing on it works. When I use it, I am not having to hit control-alt-delete 3 times a day just to have the damn thing function. It very very rarely locks up and has to be restarted because it will not respond.

When I do have a problem, there is an English speaking customer service rep on the phone that politely addresses and fixes the problem. I can also run it to the local apple store and have them fix it free of charge.

I had a computer get fried when lightning struck my house. It was plugged into a surge protector and still burned up. I walked into the apple store with a macbook pro that was 2 years old and smelled like burned tires, explained to them what happened. I filled out some paperwork and walked out with a free, brand new macbook pro. Tell me one pc company that would provide that service, you can't, they don't exist.

I don't have them for a lifestyle or because they are cool to own, I have them because they work and are years ahead of Windows and the ****** pc market.

I find most people that talk badly about Apple have never owned one or used one for more than 10 minutes.

they make great products and continue to innovate. Do I have an iPhone? No. Would I get one? Yes.
I don't like having the music and phone all together though. That would make me nervous.
I agree about how they've marketed with the PC v Mac though. Lame. Cheap.
If I wasn't so cheap, I'd own a Mac, but I can't fork over twice the money especially since Windows 7 is very Apple-esque now.

Little customization, taking pre-existing technology and claiming it to be revolutionary in an i****, Naziesque policy with developers (especially pre-iphone days), outrageously expensive and outdated hardware, and an army of douchensteins that would lick Jobs' taint and say it tastes like caviar. As someone else said, it's all about style. Sure, they perform well, but its temporary . . . there is no Apple device that can do it all, and other devices, be they PCs, Android phones, or other MP3 players (FM and HD radio, are they really that hard to integrate Apple), innovate as much or more than the yearly Apple dog and phoney show. They would rather force their crap down your throat saying you don't know enough to know what you need, but here's what you had better buy or else.

And PickleHead . . . really? You can build a more powerful and versatile system, running Windows or Linux or both, for a fraction of the cost of the latest iMac. And if you are having problems with PCs, then find someone that really knows to manage them and get them to show you. Compatibility, versatility, options, and choice . . . that's better than an Apple's reacharound approach to technology upgrades.

Just got an ipad 2 a month or so back and I have yet to run into a problem where I couldn't view something due to flash.

I understand it is a problem, I have just not found a website that i wanted to go on and could not view it due to not having flash.

1) iTunes is the biggest POS software out there.<div>2) The fact that they FORCE you to use iTunes. With anandroidphone I can simply plug it into my computer, and copy whatever I want to it, quick and simple... no installing crappy iTunes and going through that dog and poney show.
<div>3 and 4) Cost and customization - They are way over priced, there's much better options for your money. Iowned the iphone 2,3 and 4 and would much rather have an android phone as it's much morecustomize-ableand has more features/options. Same goes for macs/pc. If the hard drive dies in my laptop, i don't have to pay apple $500 to replace a simple hard drive. Also, I can actually play good games on my laptop, not the imac i sold.</div><div>5) The apple fan boys that walk around like Steve Jobs/Apple is god</div><div>6)Antenna-gate. The fact that Apple/Jobs refused to admit that there was a MAJOR problem with the iPhone 4's antenna just rubbed me wrong. Then they proceed to give away free ugly phone condoms and try to tell me that there is no problem, but here have this and you'll be happy as your phone will stop dropping calls.. *wink* wink* .... ******** way to treat your customers. Sounds like the Comcast model, treat your customers like fools.</div><div>
</div><div>Those just my reasons off the top of my head.</div> </div>

I was considering purchasing an iPad but I have been looking at the Kindle Fire from Amazon. I don't want to use it for music so I think it would work fine for just reading books and the occasional app or movie. I also like the fact that its about $300 cheaper.

Apple always tops the list for this. The few issues I've ever had have ALWAYS been quickly resolved with a simple call (from an English speaking person).

Also, Apple absolutely led the way with the way we use our "smart" phones, tablets, and, to be honest, computers. PC computers are always a step behind the latest Apple OS.

With all that said, if cost is an issue, I totally understand purchasing a PC. I just prefer to buy a product that produces and if a rare issue happens, I get GREAT customer service.

I have an iPhone, and while I have enjoyed it, I hate using iTunes. It's probably the least user friendly software I've ever used unless I want to buy things. Will I be getting the iPhone 5 when it comes out? No. Simply put, there are better phones out there right now. The Samsung Galaxy S II is coming out in the states in more markets very soon, and has outsold the iPhone internationally.

Here's a few reasons why I've not cared for Apple other than iTunes:

-Lemmings. People who get into apple products act like they've joined a cult. After they buy one product, they feel like they have to have them all.

-Accessories. I'm waiting for a toilet dock for my iPhone so I can take a **** and play Angry Birds at the same time. I hear it's out Q1 2012.

-Content development ********. I'm in IT, and would like to develop apps for my phone so I can maybe make a little money on the side. That's cool that Apple wants to take a piece of the pie since they distribute it. However, simply downloading the SDK requires me to pay money....so for every app out there, people are paying apple so they can develop content for the iphone that they are making BILLIONS off of in hopes of making a little bit of cash on the side. The Android SDK is free to download.

-Comparisons to PC. There's a reason why there are hardly any viruses or malware for apple products...it's because nobody has them. Microsoft still dominates the PC market, and as such malicious users are going to do everything they can to exploit the most number of people possible....the best way to do this is hit the largest target audience.

-Reinventing the wheel. Microsoft and EA have actually picked up on this and have learned they can do the same thing...17 you Apple for starting this ****. They take the same products that they have had for the last 5 years, slap some new paint on them each year, add 1 to the version, and call them revolutionary. Is there really that much difference in an iPhone 4 and the iPhone 3G?

until about 6 years ago. Before that, I thought Apples were for weridos, artsy-types, newspaper writers, liberals . . . pretty much every group of people I wanted to distance myself from. And the way they were so pushy and arrogant about it was a big turn-off. Then I bought my first iPod and was really impressed with it, which lead to buying the "cheap" iBook as an experiment, and I've never looked back. I'll never own another PC at home again. At work we just got brand new, top of the line Dells running Windows 7. At first I was pretty impressed with how much cleaner/nicer everything looked. But now my work PC is less than 3 months old and it already does little quirky crap - ironically enough, Flash crashes on it about every third time something uses it, and I have to restart IE to get it working again. A lot of the icons pinned to my taskbar (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) disappear and are replaced with generic application icons, so I don't know which program I'm launching when I click them except by remembering how I had them lined up. And those kinds of things don't happen on my 4 year old MacBook at home.<div>
</div><div>As for iTunes, it does need an overhaul - it's looking a little old/bloated. Read a rumor a while back that they'll be re-doing it at some point, and it needs it.</div>

..the tougher they make it to navigate the more likely you are to just say 17-it and pay $0.99 for something you already own just so iTunes will put it where you actually want it.

the ******** they spew in their advertisements is laughable.

"Well I have a Mac because it CAN'T get a virus. Nope. No one can write any malicious code for MacOS. MacOS is intrinsically smart enough to recognize malicious code and shut it down." I've had quite a few dolts tell me stuff similar to this.

That being said, yes, your odds of getting malware or a "virus" on a Mac are significantly less than getting malware on a Windows machine but not completely zero.

Moving on, their products (specifically talking about the MacBook and iMac line) are very expensive. Too often I see people drop $1800 on a machine they use to check email, surf the web, do online banking, write a paper, or some other mundane task. To me the performance of a Mac is top-notch but the bang-for-the-buck just isn't there. Similarly equipped Windows machines can be had at a lesser cost.

it sounds like you suck at computers. If there's that much wrong with your PC, and you're just okay with it, you're not taking care of it properly. Mac is like a computer with a sped helmet, you're not likely to +$!+ it up even if you try. You pay a lot more and get something you can never really upgrade.

the ipod is great, although it needs an overhall.

I do hear that the ipad is surprisingly cheap for it's size, especially compared to its competitors. However, I'm not a tablet person myself. There's nothing it can do that a good laptop/smartphone/kindle can't do better for any given situation

Me: I really wanted to play Black Ops but my old graphics card wasn't strong enough so I went to replace it but realized my mother board wouldn't handle what I wanted to do. So I replace my mother board and bought 2 Radeon HD 6950's and dropped them in crossfire. I was able to salvage most of my cables, my 1,000W power supply and luckily it all fit nicely back into my case. I even tossed my last two 2-Gig sticks and upgraded to 4's so I'm running a full 16 on 64 Bit Windows 7. Granted, I only have one ePCI slot left after the dual vcards but for ten bucks I added a couple of SATA connections to the back panel. After a couple of hours of putting the machine back together I was shredding on Black Ops with 125 FPS.

Mac Geek: Oh...... yeah... well I had some faulty RAM last month so I sent my Mac off for repairs.

Even though I love the iPhone and am looking forward to an upgrade soon, I could never live under the constraints of the Mac ecosystem.

Apple/Mac is a closed architecture 'system' per say....Apple uses Apple software, or, if you want Office on your Mac, the Office software has to be changed to Apple/Mac standards....

ie.....you wont have the problems or security issues with a mac that you will have with a PC.....because of this closed architecture type system, Apple is able to run faster and more effeciently....

Apple products do have some limitations, but the benefits far exceed those limitations.....also, its always apple coming out with the new computer technology, only to have PC makers copy it....

I will say, that I used to look Mac/Apple in a different way until I won a Macbook Pro laptop in a sales contest from my company, before that, my wife and I had 2 PC laptops and 1 desktop.....at that point I would have never taken the time to learn how to use a mac (which is another reason people dont like it, kinda that closed minded "i don't want to learn anything new and different" approach)....but when I got it, it was a free $2000 laptop and I so I learned how to use it.....since then, my wife's and I PC laptops hardly ever get used, and I have since bought another Macbook Pro for my wife bc she wouldnt leave it alone, and later bought a smaller Macbook for my child, and now have 3 iPad2s.....I love apple products, and no one would hate apple computers if they spent a week learning to use it....

just my 2 cents...

Grew up on DOS and had been a Windows user back since the 3.0 days. Had a bunch of Dells over close to a 10-year period running everything from 3.0 to XP. And yeah, I'm not super advanced with them, but I've added/installed/swapped out hard drives in my old Dell desktops, set up wireless networks, etc., so I know my way around a little bit - not much, but a little bit.

And yeah, you've got a point about PCs being easier to upgrade and mess around with. But I'm not a gamer/graphics type, and all I need my computer to do is the internet, Word, music and pictures, so being able to upgrade isn't that big a deal to me. Just seems to me, between a PC at work and a Mac at home, that OS X is a better, more stable operating system than Windows. And if the tradeoff is that I can't add another hard drive in 4 or 5 years when mine gets full, so be it.

I wasn't an early adopter of the iPad (or any tablet) for all the reasons you just said - thought the $$ was a little high and didn't see any gap for it to fill between my phone and laptop. Then I got an iPad 2 and have pretty much changed my tune. There are a lot of weekends where we don't even open the laptop and only use the iPad instead. It's prob. going to end up tacking on another year or two to the life of my 4-year old MacBook since we use it a lot less now.

and yes it is better. Your other tablets and computers are cheaper because, well, they are exactly that. Cheaper. Tell me one phone/tablet that has the perfect flow of the touch screen like apple products do. The only one that I have come across is the Samsung Galaxy. The point has been made several times on this thread already that the people that own 4+ year old macs, are still running perfectly, and people with 4+ month old PCs are pretty much ****. The people that dont want/ or just speak bad about apple products are the same people who have never owned one. They dont want to be a part of a "trend" or be grouped with the Mac people. I read most of the posts that are anti-mac and it gets a little boring to read because there is no substantial claim from the people that dont like them.<div>

I have a Mac at home and use an iPhone. Why? They seem easy to use and don't break. They do what I want and do it reliably. I don't care about the status. I don't put apple stickers on my vehicle. I have a phone case that covers up the apple logo. I just like using the product.

Reading some of these comments, I gather that I can spend less money by customizing some other operating system. Fine, I probably could...if I was tech savvy. I'm not though. Apple dumbed down performance for me and I paid for it. No need for the tech-savvy crowd to get all pissy about it...

couple other sites. I've found the Youtube app has a lot less videos than the website. For the most part it's not a big deal though.

And, a lot of porn sites use flash. Just sayin'.
