Can I weigh in on this?

About two or three years ago, I looked ino this.

The official test for coolers, is to put block hard ice in the cooler, with a wired thermometer, placed in a 90 degree room.
They don't open the cooler, and when it goes to below 32 degrees, test over.

Under that arrangement, there are plenty of 5 or 6 day coolers out there.

I wound up with a Coleman Marine 6 day cooler. At about a 5th of the cost.

Only advantage I really see, is that BEARS can't get into a Yetti to drink all of your beer...

It's Bear proof.

I go gulf fishing at least twice a month in the spring and summer months and its worth it in that regard. I have a 75 quart that I use just to keep ice in to put on the fish in the larger chest. Then after the trip I move what I take back home with me in the cooler. Most of the time I get back after midnight and don't feel like cleaning the fish so I can leave them in my cooler through the night and into the next day or the next and my fish is still fine. But I was given mine by a yeti rep so I probably would not have ever dished out the bucks to pay for it. But yes, I do have a sticker on my truck, along with several other company's but its more of an advertising thing.

I guess I just don't see the need to keep cold drinks in the back of my truck for a long period of time. When I drink I typically finish most of my beers in one night/weekend and I'm never driving.

And even if you do need to keep drinks cold that long, how hard or expensive is it to go buy another bag of ice? And that's giving the Yeti the huge benefit of the doubt that it really is better than other coolers.

Ha, It would take about 350 extra bags of ice to make up the difference in cooler cost alone!

I'm partial to the 30A stickers..and by partial I mean the inflated sense of self is delicious.

I have to endure 30A stickers by the thousands here in PCB. I may quit my job and sell them on the corner.

Do you want a 30A sticker? I'm selling them for a hefty profit.

You're doing it wrong. That thing goes in your yard, not on your truck. At least, that's what I've heard.

Until they put wheels on one of these Sumbitches I ain't paying $20 bucks for one. Seriously, a cooler without wheels is a 17ing refridgerator.

And what is the Salt Life thing some of you have mentioned?

There are about 10 cars in my neighborhood that have them. From the skinny blond housewife in a Nissan Rogue to the plumber with the lifted Jeep. I think I saw some of the stickers in some store out in Renaissance that I'm pretty sure gave out Sigma Chi bids with a purchase over $500.

Yup. Same with Northface, those damn Nike shorts, Costa del Mar, Z71 trucks, etc. Most people LEGITMATELY don't need any of that stuff. Hell, I read a study (I can't find it now) that was conducted by some magazine a few years back that less than 20% of truck owners use four wheel drive on trucks more than 3 or 4 times a year and about 35% of 4X4 pickup owners ever use 4X4 on their trucks period. Truth is, you still gotta pay for it up front, maintain it, and enjoy filling up more often to enjoy that decal on the side of the truck.

I guess you gotta keep up with the jones'...

Also, what's up with fishing shirts worn at bars and restaurants?

Don't get me wrong, fishing shirts are comfortable, but so are wife beaters. Unless you are at the marina watering hole, put on a shirt without built in air conditioning and 20 straps, pockets, and zippers.

Then again, tennis/polo shirts made their way into main stream men's fashion. Fishing? Eh, probably not.

Fishing shirts run 20 bucks a pop at SAMs occasionally. I werk for a site work company, we put 5 cases of water in yeti cooler on Monday and still have same ice the next Monday morning when prepping to pull out, so it prolly saves us in long run.

My Yeti keeps out the bear at my house. And by bear, I mean my 2 year old. And no, it isnt the greatest thing since sliced bread, but its nice and I imagine I will have it forever. Its a little like an iPhone, you spend that much on something, you just take better care of it. I am sure I have spent over $200 on coolers over the past 5 years - they just always walk away on me. Mrs. Azzurri got me this one for my birthday and I am glad she did. I also dont have a problem with North Face. I like well-built and designed stuff.

I dont have a Yeti sticker on my car, but I dont have a problem with decals, as long as you own it. Marathon stickers are fine...hell I would want people to know I did that too (NEVER going to happen). That said, I dont really want stickers all over my car, so I end up putting them on my cooler. Win win.

Nobody owns Salt Life. I keep thinking to myself, if I see another GD salt life sticker at any location more than 5 miles from 17ing salt water, I am taking a razor blade to their windshield.

I have one of the 20qt yeti's (was a gift from the company I work for). I would never buy 1 with my own money. All of the yeti owners I know, had them given to them as well. I don't know anyone who has actually spent money on one, but I know they are out there. When you pick up an empty 20QT yeti, I swear you would think it's already full of drinks and ice. They are mighty heavy, especially not to have wheels, for the bigger ones at least.

An iPhone is the most awesome portable communication device ever built. It's OS is bulletproof and platform is fail safe. Especially if you have ever had an android or blackberry device. Apple created the perfect phone and the money is justified. Yeti? Not so much.

I live 2 blocks from the MS Sound, and 17'n hate the SALT LIFE...

Especially when it is on the back of some pretty boy's Range Rover or BMW SUV, knowing good and well that bastard driving it don't know the difference btwn a mullet and a spec.

My mother in law bought me a Salt Life shirt for christmas and I almost slapped her.

I have an awesome cooler made by Whirlpool. Get this: it uses electricity so it's ALWAYS cold in there. Cold beer for days. It's pretty big though, so it just stays in my kitchen.

And yes, I do have a Whirlpool sticker on my car.

Frat hard, bro.

I love that you can make a random, off the cuff comment about a Greek stereotype and the frat for life guys get their pledge panties in a wad.

it's much more than just keeping ice ... what makes them so expensive is a process called "roto-casting" ... it tempers the plastic to make it incredibly strong ... you can sit or stand on it, abuse it, drop it, let it bang around while you are running (in a boat) through rough water ... bottom line is that it's a specialty product for a targeted demographic ... Can't blame someone for wanting one ... anyone ever wanted the best of something ? golf clubs, cars, sporting equipment, or whatever ......... or is this an abstract slant on the guys in Oxford driving BMW's with the Salt-life stickers ?

How many big green egg threads have been on here? $600 for a charcoil grill!

So I bought a expensive cooler because I work outdoors year round and like to keep cold drinks rather than pay a buck eighty everytime I roll by a convience store. You'll be glad that bastard is back there in the middle of July. And yea, it's chained to my truck to make the democrats work for it.

Well, lets see, I have one Yeti, two Engels, and three green eggs so I guess that makes me the biggest idiot alive. But I like nice things and thanks to a little MSU education and a lot of wisdom and experience passed down from my father, I can afford it. It's not a status symbol or a need but just a want. Sometimes a want is tremendous motivation to get out of the bed and succeed in life. The sticker came with the cooler do I had to put it somewhere.

True story:... Sitting at a red light with my 8 year old the other day...

Out of the blue, he says "Hey dad.. what's slut life?"

I broke out in a cold sweat and stammered out... wh..what?

He said "Yeah, it's that sticker on that big truck right there."

Classic...

I too am confused by the fishing shirt revolution.
