Is it just me? I believe this movie is underrated as a great movie.

Honestly I didn't much care for it. I thought "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (Johnnie Depp) was much better.
It's a classic and I believe well recognized as an iconic movie, especially Gene Wilder's performance.

I liked them both. Clearly, a lot of LSD was consumed in creating both of these movies.

Original is an absolute classic. Anyone I spoke with who has seen it has had nothing but positive things to say. Wilders performance akd songs are widely considered to be fantastic.
