When was the last time we’ve had this kind of depth? When the first substitutions happened, IIRC, it was Akwasi, Jacob, and Paul coming in and I thought, wow, there’s not much drop off there!

That’s a solid 8 man rotation with Carter and Duke rounding out the 10 man rotation. Carter is starting to play better and I think Duke is still shaking off the rust. Still not shabby to have those guys off the bench.

Thoughts?

Agree. It's been a very long time since we've had this kind of depth. As long as we continue to grow and jell together this should really help us in our conference games especially when many of the teams we play have a shorter bench than us.

I dont think it's depth as much as quality of players that can fit into a role of what they can do well.

The difference between the 10th or 11th player vs the 4th or 5th best player is closing quickly. There are so many disillusioned fans referring to recruiting star players or who offered, that they fail to watch the 900 or so basketball games that seem to be on since the start of the season.

It doesn't matter whether its Evansville, Winthrop, SFA, University of Pennsylvania last night battling Arizona, kids and players are everywhere.

I probably watched bits of 8 games last night and finally felt like what I watched at the RAC vs UMass resembles what I saw on TV vs others.

The fact that we aren't micromanaging Paul Mulcahy and his game is a sign that we aren't asking the next freshman to be an immediate gratification player....he is now moving and developing under the radar, just like all the kids are.

Here's the breakdown of 7 games...rounded down or up depending on the numbers.

Harper 13PPG
Baker 13 PPG
Myles 9PPG
Yeboah 9PPG
McConnell 9PPG
Yeboah 9PPG
Young 8PPG
Mathis 7PPG

Mulcahy and Carter are around 3 to 4PPG, but each is contributing on the glass and moving the basketball.

It's very difficult to now stop RU vs early last year when it was Geo learning how to function without Corey Sanders and Eugene asked to carry everything up front and turning the ball over too much.

It's anyone's guess who leads the team in scoring the next 2 games but if one player has an off game, I feel like RU will be competitive most nights.

Sorry but if there is 200 minutes and 7 perimeter players that are pretty good I am fine against most opponents giving 160 minutes to non 5s.

Hawk, all great points. But it's also the kind of depth we haven't had here in a very long time. Either way, I like what I've seen in the last two games. We need to keep progressing forward and IMO, if we can go 2-2 over these next four games I'll be thrilled.

In the cakewalk OOC so far, I'm not convinced that Carter, Doucoure, or Young are B1G ready. Young looked a little better yesterday, but I need way more than that to give him significant minutes in league play. Given his size Doucoure has to play but he needs a score and rebound a lot better.

I'd like to see Pike try some bigger combos, like playing Myles and Shaq at the same time, and Ron and Akwasi at the same time.
Agree with this. Should at least test it out. Some size matchups will be necessary as we move ahead.

Yeah, that’s depth. You’re trying too hard to be the smartest guy in the room. This team has more depth... other than that I’m hearing Yada Yada Yada

I don't think it's depth... Then I'll just talk about nothing but depth... Just agree and add context. You don't need to try to pretend it's not depth then just describe depth

It's showing up that way in the 1st 7 games. Does the rotation stay that way in the next 4....??

I think it can, I'd like to see it perform against better competition and see if the staff remains true to the rotations.

I love how balanced we are on offense to this point. At times in the past, I got the impression guys who hadn't shot the ball in a few minutes figured it was their turn when they got their hands on the ball regardless of if it was a quality shot. My impression now is the attitude is more about finding the best shot we can get regardless of who gets the bucket. The more the guys buy into that instead of "getting mine", the harder we will be to beat.

I like the fact that a player like Young whose not one of the top 6 scorers, based on Hawk’s numbers above, having the ability to put a game together where he gets hot without hurting the team with turnovers and I could see Pike riding his hot scoring and letting him play outside of his current mins to put 15-20 pts on the board. That’s what I really like about this roster that you have bench players that could be leaders in scoring, assists and defense if they occasionally outplay a starter that may be having a off night.

They next four games will be telling on what we have.

We have very good depth at positions 1-3, but very little depth at center and power forward. There is a huge falloff when Myles leaves the game. Carter as a senior has been a big disappointment IMHO, and Duke is still pretty raw. We also don’t have a legit Big 10 power forward.
