Is looking pretty good so far!

QB- We're going to have to fight for Rivers, but I think we have a decent shot at him.

O-line- We've got Nick Redmond who looks like a good pick-up, sounds like we are about to get James Maiden who may play on this side of the ball- and let me say that I like that we are getting versatile athletes that can possibly play several positions. Just put the best 22 on the field. I'd like to get the guys from Callaway- Morris and Bell and then Knox from West Lauderdale.

TE- Rufus Warren looks like a guy that could develop into a legit, solid SEC player at 6'5" 238. Knox can possibly play TE as well.

WR- This is a huge area of need. I'd love to get Tobias Singleton because he would fit into Dan's offense perfectly with Chad Bumphis and Micheal Carr. Ditto for Nick Brassell. Unfortunately, I'm afraid we won't get them. I like Joe Morrow to, and I think we are maybe making up some ground with him. However, I do like Devin Fosselman, and I like Devante Scott from Louisiana. I'd still like to sign as many WR's as we can- five would be great- because of the depth in the state and the fact that it's an area of need.

RB- I honestly can't think of very many RB's that I would really like to have, and I'm not sure that there's really much of a need for us to get one with Conner, LaDerius Perkins, Matthew Wells, and Nick Griffen. If we spent a scholarship on another WR, I wouldn't bat an eye.

DL- Maiden can play here to. I feel OK about our d-line situation for the short term at least with Cox, Boyd, Virges, McKenzie, Euells, and Skinner. Maybe pick up PJ Jones from Tupelo, Cortez Hartzog from Gulfport, and Dora from West Point.

LB- C J Johnson is a huge pick-up for us, and a guy that can maybe come in and play right away. Marcus Mayers from Taylorsville would be a nice pick up as well, as would Trae Johnson from Mendenhall.

DB- Jermaine Whitehead is another nice pick up for us. Zach Jackson could help on either side of the ball as well. Darion Arrington would make this a very nice DB class for us, along with Marino Daggan.

K/P- We may go the walk-on route here, but I think this is going to be a need with Hutchins and Brauchle and DePasquale graduating.

LS- This is the ONE position that can make or break a team. This is a huge need. I will go on a post-LSU tirade if Dan screws this up.

I think we can get most of the guys I mentioned. Singleton and Brassell our low on my confidence meter right now. Morrow is slightly higher, but not high enough that I feel good about it. I think we're 50/50 with Rivers, PJ Jones, and Trae Johnson.

I know a lot of people on here don't like talking about recruiting this early, but I do. Especially since the sports world is kind of dead right now.
QB- I think Rivers and Dominique Harris from Southhaven are gonna be our QB's for this class with Harris being a guy that you can play elsewhere if QB doesn't work out.

No RB this year unless you consider D. Scott a RB, but I think he will be a slot guy in the future.

WR- I like where we are with Morrow, just picked up a commit from Fosselman, Gabe Gray is also a pretty talented guy. And like Todd said we aren't out of it w/ Brassell, Moncrief, or Singleton. My thinking is that yes, OM leads for all of those guys, but they have recruited afew high profile guys the last 2 years, so there aren't gonna be a lot of balls heading their way early if they elect to go there. Especially if they all elect to go there, so there is a potential that we could sneak in and get one of them.

TE- Warren and Jehvontes Riles who almost commited last week.

OL- Redmond is commited and Knox isn't far behind. And then we will take 2 more whether it be Morris and Bell, or a JuCo guy to come in and replace Sherrod like Korian Chambers.

We won't take a lot of D-lineman this year, but one guy we really need is Leon Mackey a Hinds CC guy that can come in and effectively replace McPhee. He signed w/ USCe out of HS, but really likes us. We will probably take 1 or 2 of the best available HS def. ends. Probably someone out of Barron Dixon, L. Jackson, or Dora.

At DT I think we go with Maiden, who has been promised an opportunity to start out on the DL, P.J. Jones, and maybe Hartzog if the numbers work out right.

LB is the biggest need of this class since we have a few quality guys graduating and a bunch of players that have yet to prove they can play on the roster. C.J. will be a fantastic player for us in the future. Mayers is leaning toward OM right now, but he is one of our top OLB prospects along with Trae Johnson, Shaq Perry, and some kid from Indiana that blew up at camp. I think we take 3-4 LB's.

S- Zack Jackson and Dee Arrington and we are done there.

CB- this is where is gets interesting, along with WR's. They # of corners and receivers we take is all gonna depend on how many guys we think we can sign. I've heard as little as 22 and as many as the limit. But Whitehead is a great player that is gonna give us some talent at corner we haven't had in a while, I think Gholson from the coast is the second guy on our board. He has a brother at State and we were his leader at one time, but we trail OM right now for him. Getting Morrow could really help our chances with Gholson bc they are good friends. And the kid from West Point-Cox- who blew up last week at the camp, and Tino Thomas from Memphis would likely round out a very big, fast, and talented CB class.

are leaning to om a tape of the nfl network guys talking about nutt's offense being a terrible scheme as a contributing factor to snead's unprecedented fall. Couldn't hurt.

That would be a good strategy but that would be easily countered by showing them State's all time passing statistics. Remember State lead the SEC in rushing.

get fewer balls, especially Patterson but on our end, I think as we continue to open up our passing especially as Russell develops, we will see more WRs looking our way. Anyone heard anything of Carr's status/grades

You can put up some big stats as a WR in Nutt's offense. Shay Hodge did pretty well. I think Snead's issue last year was more of a Snead problem and crappy o-line than anything else.

The better argument would be that we use more WRs in our offense and the likelihood that you get playing time early and often is higher in our offense. If you are recruiting a highly touted prototypical NFL frame WR, Ole Miss is going to beat us in the scheme argument - Pat Patterson is a good example of that.

I'm not lumping Ole Miss in with the great WR schools over the past couple of decades, but their offense is certainly more of a pro-style offense. When I think great WR schools, I think Michigan (pre-richrod), USC, Tennessee, Ohio State, Pitt, Mich State. These are all pro-style type offenses typically with "featured" WRs. If you are recruiting a stud WR, it's easier to recruit them in these offenses bc you can promise them to be the man after in your Jr/Sr year. Their featured WR is going to get an ample quantity of passes (plenty of deep balls as well) thrown their way and all the opportunity they need to put up stats that will get NFL attention.

For us, when we aren't running the ball, we may have 4 to 5 WRs on the field at any given time. We don't necessarily have that Option A guy that is going to get most of the looks. We just don't operate that way - which I'm totally fine with. A system like that will let us perform more consistently over time considering the talent level we typically recruit. But the downside to that is that it will be hard to get those 4 star receivers to look at us since they don't want to share passing attempts or block when we run the ball over 60% of the time.

I'm told Marino Daggan won't be part of this class.

thing that could go a long way with getting some of these WRs is how well our season goes. This is a huge year.

from Brookhaven? Just wondering, because youwill probablysee his recruitment increase dramatically. I hope we are one of the schools involved. He is a State fan and Louisville is already all over him I think.

You know that they would use it against us if the shoe was on the other foot.
