Would it also be too much to ask for them to do the "Hey Song"

chant in time with the band/rest of the stadium? It sounds like *** when they take off and everyone else in the stadium just stops cheering. It could be a badass cheer if everyone would just stay in time with the band, who is in the middle of the field and keeping time with the chant.

And yes, I do agree.

Having personally witnessed the worst five years of Mississippi State football as student, these students should have their tickets revoked.

THIS. These students suck.

Except the ones who were there and stayed. There weren't even enough to fill the end zone section. Pitiful. They can't even fill the stands for a 8-3 team playing a SECW game.

Plain and simple: they're spoiled.

They don't understand that days like today are rare for us. They just want to care for a couple of big games a year. And somehow the 11 am excuse is allowed to live on.

When you are watching Crxxms teams loaf around offensively and lose 11 am games against Maine, Tulane, and terrible Kentucky and OM teams, an 11 am game against an SECW opponent at 8-3, even if the opponent is bad, doesn't sound that bad.

Would it be possible to take attendance again during the 4th quarter, and somehow punish people who leave early? (Maybe raise the ticket prices, but if you never leave early, you get that extra cost back as a refund?)

Coming from a student, yeah that was pathetic today, but...

The place cleared out by middle of the 3rd quarter.

I don't think you can say it lacks 'everything'. It was an 11 am game after midterms and 3 straight losses (including a deflating home loss).

It's been a good section especially at night games this year, but does have a problem with 11 am games.

I *don't* think we're spoiled....maybe just... relaxed?

Figure some were already leaving campus for thanksgiving break.

Certainly disappointing to see such a small student section on senior day... for one of the best classes in state history.

For most of them, football games are social events...

..they make an appearance with their new boyfriend or girlfriend, pimp & peacock in front of their fraternity/sorority members, spend 15 minutes cussing Tyler Russell for throwing an incomplete pass, then they are ready to leave. The majority of them are not there to cheer on the Maroon & White through thick & thin. That would tarnish their Fraternity Row image.

Those students making excuses should through 4 seasons of the Crxxms/McCorvey offensive showcase at 11:00 every week. Not meaning to be a douche, but I've sat out there and watched us lose to Tulane, Maine, 2 win Kentucky teams, and get skull drug by LSU 45-0 in the rain, but was there every single week. Watching us play a winnable game at 8-3 against a weaker than normal, but still dangerous Arkansas team (who we've only beaten twice since they've been in the SEC) is not that bad.

Again, there are so many excuses that can be made for why the student section wasn't full today, but in end it is flat out embarrassing and their is no real excuse. LSU's student section was full today, and they have nothing to play for. The way I see it is we are either all in to overcome the mountain that is the SEC West or we are not. As of right now, your class is known as the students that don't show up to games.

After 3 straight losses to top 10 teams? WTF is that? Are our students that apathetic now because they didn't win the National Championship?

The real easy way to solve this problem is for student tickets to be cut from 11,000 to 9,000 or 8,000. Of course then those students will probably still leave early.

So was Tulane, but I'm not counting. I wish like hell I was still a student getting to watch us play an Arkansas team at 8-3. Instead, I was forced to watch Crxxms teams.

Thanks for reinforcing my point...

...Biffy & Missy were having a party at River Hills Friday night, & all the Pikes & Tri Deltas just had to be there. Screw the football game. No opportunities for social strutting @ Davis Wade Stadium. Let's just all go home.

The LAST `17 home game and we can't make it because we had mid terms this week?

********.

We used to live for a reason to let loose.

I would not call them spoiled, just not dedicated to the support they need to have for the team and self debauchery that one expects from the students at a WINNING SEC program.

They didn't show up because they miss the TD beer showers.

17r's would have slit their wrist if they had to sit through the Felker years.

Man, it's so bad that I don't even bother singing or screaming along anymore. I just sit in my seat to hear them ahead by 8 seconds and when they're done they do nothing and it's pitiful to watch. I said something earlier this year about it but I know that nothing will happen to get us all on the same page. I even saw some students leaving in the 1st quarter. Like some of you guys have said, they are watching not only a great year but one of the best senior classes in school history if not the best and you leave in the first? C'mon man!!!

A lot of students were trying to sell their ticket, but there were also a lot of students sitting in their parents seats... Not just the students who decided not to show up today

CALLING BULL!!!! That place was a ghost town at halftime of the MTSU game too, and we were only up 10-7! Our atmosphere is top notch, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the students. The only game the Students showed up for this entire season was the Tennessee game.

I say cut them back to 8,500 tickets, and if they're dedicated enough to camp out and get them, maybe they'll stick around.

Most of those "dedicated enough to camp out" will just be pledges that have to give them up to their frat buddies.

Ok if your point is valid (which I doubt), why is it that at the end of the game the non student parts of the stadium is 90% full while the student sections are maybe 20% full?

PATHETIC.

There were various reasons for today....

There were multiple reasons for the lack of attendance in the student section. All these reasons added together caused a bad showing, but I agree they are no excuse to just leave or not attend.
1. Some students have already left for Thanksgiving holiday even though there are classes Monday and Tuesday.
2. I know several who tried selling their tickets because today was the opening of gun season, so they wanted to hunt. And there were also some who came and left early, so they could hunt in the afternoon.
3. It was an 11am game which always hurts people's motivation to attend the game because the atmosphere and tailgating just are not the same that early in the morning.

What do students do? Sleep all day?? 11 a.m. is plenty of time to sleep all a reasonable person could want to sleep and still get to the game.

And none of those is a valid reason for the student section being just over half full.

Never understood the deer hunting excuse ... does the season only last one day? What's the big deal about being out there on the first day?

Serious querstion. What would have been your reaction if some over zealous sheep-type fan tried to tell you how to be a MSU fan when you were in school ? Mine would have been "go 17 yourself". I think alumni trying to choreograph how the students act at a football game is over-kill. Always have.

Old people don't get a pass from me for this game either. The redneck part of our fanbase that would rather go deer hunting than watch an 8 win team is garbage. There were empty seats everywhere in the stadium. Deer season gets us every year. And others were just straight up deflated at a 4th dang 11am kickoff. Stricklin has got to do some lobbying and make sure that **** doesn't happen again

We really lack in the 'lunatic' fringe that most of the SEC has.....

....we have WAY too many of the khaki pants and polo shirt with Romney/Ryan stickers wearing MS crowd, and not enough of the t-shirt face paint sidewalk type crowd. The rick's rowdies types if you will.

No excuse for the current students to not stay the whole game.

I sat through some of the best (99 & 00) and worst (01-03) football that stadium has seen and never left the stadium before the final was announced once. That includes the depressing final 2 home games of '03 where our offense failed to score a single point and the other teams went into scrimmage mode. I stayed to the bitter end of those despite my pre-game buzz wearing off.

I sat through the Trey Rutland era. I feel your pain. We got shut out against USCe on a thursday night ESPN showcase, then got shut out against Auburn the next week. Shirley, we'd beat Tulane in week 3. We didn't. I sat through all 180 minutes of those games.

This in another way.. Those that you speak of and a lot of our expanding student base (Greek too) haven't grown up rooting for the Dawgs. Memphis area especially. They haven't grown up with much focus on college football at all really and therefore don't prioritize it like is needed. Just another social event. We know the types and we know this is true.
