I should rephrase. If he improves he has a shot. He’s athletic, and has talent. I’m saying comparing him to the last 2 POY in the SEC in Clayton and Knect he’s a step down right now. Those guys were buckets. Who knows who might blow up. It might be Oweh. Let’s hope.
The whole league is taking a step back this season, most likely. The SEC is losing two classes worth of Seniors (the regular Seniors and the COVID Seniors), so it’s going to be a little weaker this season.
Oweh, if he returns, will be considered one of the top five returning players in the SEC. Most people will have him as a Preseason First Team All-SEC player and a candidate for SEC POY.
Don’t forget that he was a Second Team All-SEC guy last year and as I said, this league will likely take a step back.
He may not win SEC POY, but he will be a candidate for the award until some others pass him by.
I think he will be our leader and leading scorer this coming season, if he returns. As the top player on one of the top teams, he will likely be considered for SEC POY.
Now winning it, that remains to be seen. There are going to be other great candidates as well, depending on the decisions made by Condon(UF) and Thiero(Ark). Plus Hubbard(MSU) and Mitchell(Mizzou) are back.
There’s no guarantee he will win it, but I think he will be a contender, at least to start the season.
