They won’t have time to pursue him. Oweh says “I’m gone” tomorrow at 9pm and pope has 3 hours to convince Luis to forgo the draft for uk. If Oweh leaves it will not be a good look for him. he will not reap the real benefits of being an alum at UK bb after 1 season if his legacy is preventing us from being able to replace him. Idk if he’s been paying attention but pope is swinging for the fences. He’s trying to win a title. He’s had plenty of time to know his draft stock.
Well Pop Isaac’s did flip after Uzan returned. Maybe they take a shot at a committed player for that cash, I’m sure a couple major players may change their mind at an Oweh size offer.

I think that depends on if they sign or not. The portal is closed, so I don't think you can transfer again. There may be exceptions or waivers, but I am guessing Isaac's realized this could be an issue and did not sign with Houston. Otherwise, I am not sure how he was able to get out of it.
Apparently it’s possible.

Not is as many words but they can convey that. And I think if you go undrafted you maintain eligibility if you haven’t signed with an agent.
Jeez, you are living in the past. “Signing with an agent” no longer has a damn thing to do with eligibility, and hasn’t for quite some time now. Hell, nowadays the college players all have agents too.

The obvious replacement in a worst-case scenario of Oweh leaving actual has a pretty nice silver lining: get Caleb Holt to reclassify. He's elite and actually has a very similar slashing game to Oweh, except Holt has potential to be an elite shooter.

He shot 50% from three last summer in the FIBA games, and averaged almost 2 steals per game with his 6'9" wing span.

Oweh will likely come back, but if he doesn't we will land another elite talent.
I don't know much about Holt. Hardly anything at all really. Is he likely to reclassify? Are we in good shape with him?

I think Oweh is back.
I certainly hope he is back.

But I'll say this even before we know, and everyone can have at me: It's not the worst thing in the world if he doesn't come back. This is a Kentucky team with a number of potential break-out stars, from Williams to Johnson to Aberdeen, not to mention Quaintance. And there is no doubt Pope would add someone established to replace Oweh.

I'm not sure Oweh back, with something to prove TO NBA SCOUTS, and determined to be the center of the offense, is that much better than giving several other guys more opportunities.

Again, I expect Oweh to be back. And I hope he comes back with the attitude that he's part of a really talented team and he'll burnish his NBA credentials by playing as part of a team.

If he's not back, Kentucky will be fine.
I'm with you. I would love to have him back too but I don't think it's the end of the world if he doesn't. No one really expected him to be the player he was last year. He took a huge leap. I think we have players on our roster that can make that same leap and fill his shoes. My guess is Kam Williams.

Watkins is a taller version of Oweh, he should be the target.

He's elite. Maybe the best wing player in his class. Athletic. Long. Great wing span. Solid rebounder and passer. He averaged about 11 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists per game in limited minutes at FIBA. Shot the ball exceptionally well. 63% from two, 50% from three, and 79% from the line. Only played 16 minutes per game, but he was highly effective in his time on the court. Posted a 20 to 6 assist to turnover ratio in 7 games.

UK is one of his favorites. His dad loves Pope. A reclass is always just a mere set of summer papers away from happening.

Oweh proliferated mainly due to injuries. I think with a healthy roster we will be fine.
Love to have him back but I’m not a hand-wringer on this decision.

It’s going down to the wire. I hope Otega decides to return but I would not be shocked if he stays in the draft.
I tend to think Pope already has a plan regardless of Oweh's decision

Remember when we missed Yaxel, that SDSU guy and finally we have 5 solid frontcourt players

I know even Oweh leaves, Pope will have some emergency plans

Thanks! It sounds like he should have played more on that FIBA team. Whichever year he enters college I hope he's wearing a UK jersey

Is he academic available for reclass?

I’ve thought all along Oweh would not come back. People get mad and say it’s just not logical, but the decisions these kids have made for years often are not. We’re still stacked if that happens, and I won’t be surprised if we add one more guard.
Yeah, but you can't lump decisions made during the NIL era to the era prior to it where players couldn't even profit a dime.
We're seeing guys come back now that would have never considered it before. Now, it's kind of a stupid decision to take a 2nd round deal when you can make so much more in college.

Meanwhile Lendeborg literally turned down a first round position to return to school. How's that for feedback?
Probably he is just "predicted" to be first rounder but no team actually gives him guarantee

Or he just wants to earn money at college despite having good feedback

Aren't they all?

If Jeremiah Fears could pull it off while still finding time for AU, traveling the world to play in Fiba tourneys, etc., then Caleb Holt can certainly pull it off.

Also, go ask Marvin Bagley how easy it is to reclass if a guy really wants to do so.
I really like Holt

He is more talented version of Oweh

Fits our system very well

But that's exactly my point. There's no way Oweh received better feedback than Lendeborg.

The narrative shifts are hilarious. Oweh falls out of virtually every mock draft, but suddenly there's a burst of positive feedback in the 11th hour!

Another May Miracle, everyone!

We will know soon

Because "prediction" may be biased and sometimes only nba teams know the true value and prospect of some players , oweh may be way higher than most draft prediction shows in nba teams

I tend to think Oweh will be back, if Yaxel is back, no way Oweh will not back, Oweh will make a ton of money in college next season

But sometimes weird things may happen, we will know soon

Dude, you're one of my favorite posters, but I really think it would be more fitting if you changed your screen name to "worryaboutit23."
Saul I have been one of the most positive guys on this board for months now, you’re confusing me with somebody else. Also you should know by now I like to “poke the bear” so to speak and get people going sometimes. But I will agree with you that nobody should be panicking yet. I do think we should atleast entertain the idea of Oweh leaving more now, but still think he is back

The only hope Oweh has to be drafted is forgo college asap and plan to work out for every team until draft day. I think he could hear his name called around the last pick. If that’s what he’s all about good luck. With all said i think he returns pope knows it and this is all for the media and fan consumption.
Why in hell are we critizing a young man that is trying to better himself and find a future career. He has zero obligation to stay at Kentucky to make a few idiot fans happy. How many are talking trash about Oweh leaving that would stay in your curret job if you felt like there was another path to improve you and your families lives. I kind of doubt that you would. Oweh's future is a heck of a lot more important to him and his family over ANY name on the front of a jersey. He gave us one great year and played through injury and showed more courage than anyone posting crap about him possibly leaving to try to reach a dream job in the NBA. If he stays in the draft, I wish and hope he has a wonderful career in professional basketball. If he returns to UK, I will welcome him back with open arms.
