Pack of bikers chase down and beat a NYC driver

If you've not seen the video by now here it is. The initial contact is at about 0:27 in.

Looks like a rider demonstration in NYC got really crowded and then all hell broke loose. Folks get run over. Bikes crushed. A dude gets pulled out of his car and beaten on the street while his wife and young daughter are in the car watching.

There are articles all over the net by now, but here's the story from the NYTimes.

Can you imagine being in this situation? Who all was at fault? I've seen different media spin it different ways.

it's the biker's fault. They get together and turn the roads into their personal playground. **** them. I can say this b/c i ride a motorcycle.

Here's the story as best as I've seen it pieced together:

Large biker gang decides to 17 with driver. One guy gets like 4 feet in front of him and brake-checks him. He is subsequently rear-ended. Driver pulls over, then bikers surround the vehicle, slash his tires, etc. Driver fears for his life and gets the hell out of there - running one or two over in the process. Bikers continue to chase, then bash in window and beat driver. Apparently several of the bikers are going to be charged with various offenses.

Pretty much looks like mob mentality from a bunch of thugs. Motorcyclists (and bicycle riders while we're at it) already ignore rules of the road and make it more dangerous for everyone else, but when you multiply that by 50+, you get serious trouble. Sadly, if not for the one guy with the camera, this would have probably never been a story, nor would anyone be charged.

That was my take. One of those "I dare you to hit me" things. Hope they catch them all and charge them to the max. You are also correct about them ignoring the rules of the road, or at least the bicycle people down here in the swamp. Left lane, right lane, middle of the road, sidewalk - makes no difference to them.

I fully expect any day now to be riding home on I55 and see a greasy

spot in the road that was once one of these bikers passing me on one wheel doing 90 mph. They do some crazy ****.

Who's at fault?.. You're shitting us, right?..

They smashed the guy's window with a helmet, dragged him out of his car and beat the **** out of him. Regardless of what happened earlier, I'd say they're pretty much at fault.

I've seen such a greasy spot--on 95 in Virginia--and it is not a pretty sight.

Yeah. There are a lot of real idiots on I-55. I have seen one of them being carted off in an ambulance before. Surprising it doesn't happen on almost a weekly basis in Jackson.

These

shitheads better be glad they weren't in Mississippi or any other place where the gun laws aren't so 17ing stupid. I can tell you if I had been in this driver's situation, I would have pulled my .45 out. Things would have been extremely bad for the biker that tested me.

The Today Show this morning mentioned that there were 200+ complaints called in that day on the motorcycles. No question they are at fault

Wonder how this would playout in Ms?

Wonder what I'd do?

Try to drive so that you won't have stop, call 911 and ask them to join you for a ride?

That chase lasted awhile.

On the interstate in MS, they would try to box you in and slowly bring you to a stop. You can run their asses over, but they likely keep pursuing. I would notify 911 and inform them that I have a gun and fear for my life. I have a 33 rd. magazine in my center console, but it would probably only take three or four rounds being fired at the most. The minute that 17er hit my windshield with his helmet, he gets ventilated through the window.

There was a similar occurrence in a semi rural area of georgia a couple of years ago that didn't get media exposure like this one has. Only in this particular event, the driver of the truck was pulling a trailer and his trailer wheels went off the edge of the narrow road and threw gravel up on the bikers behind him. They were disrespected so they had to chase him through the country side until they came to the city limits where he had to stop and they pulled him out of the truck and beat the hell out of him at an intersection.

Castle law plus weapon of choice +1 to the driver. Hardest part would be driving and reloading.

Sad thing is in NYC he would probably be painted as the villain for having defended himself with a firearm.

Things would most likely be bad for you too. Sounds like a mutually assured destruction scenario to me

You might be right but I would have defended myself with a gun before getting beaten to death by a bunch of idiots.

Slow. Steady. Aim.

Don't panick. When the first few people drop the rest will think twice.

Drive made a mistake getting off of the interstate. Boxed himself in.

As opposed to 20 people dragging you into the street and possibly beating you to death? I feel pretty confident that I wouldn't be destoying myself by blasting the leader of the pack who is busting my window with a helmet while several others back him up. Chances are better that I get destroyed by not doing anything.

33 rounds? Whoa! Is that for a rifle or super long Glock extended clip? Guy had his wife and 2 year old kid in the car too, I heard. The biker getting paralyzed will likely result in a civil suit.

As

most law enforcement experts will tell you (in situations like this), firing a shot would most likely dispurse the crowd. Even if not, though, I'd much rather take my chances with defending myslef than not.

I don't understand the mindset of playing chicken with a SUV when you are on a motorcycle. That's like bringing a knife to a gun fight and then getting angry when the other person shoots your stupid butt. The guy he ran over has two broken legs and a crushed spine...will never walk again, but I don't have any sympathy for him.

Honest questions: ever had a gun pulled on you before? Most people react differently than they think. Ever been shot at or around when bullets are flying? You'll act differently then too.

They would have likely scattered like rats when bullets started hitting their buddies. I bet 95% would have hauled *** on their rice rockets.

And I can answer yes to both questions.

Well now you can't share a tidbit like that and not tell the whole story. You have piked my interest sir.

Really? So if the driver had sprayed that first guys head across the pavement when he got to the car, you think that his buddies would have kept coming at the car? Because I think that its way more likely that they would have **** their pants and started running like hell.

This. I'm willing to bet that most would have bolted at the even the site of a gun.

DAYUM: NYC DA "won’t charge bike assault thugs"

Unreal.

The Manhattan DA’s office won’t press charges against one of the motorcycle thugs who allegedly terrorized and beat a man after a wild chase on the West Side Highway, and is reluctant to prosecute another, sources said Wednesday.

I'm saying if you're legally allowed to carry a firearm then I'd say there's pretty good odds of at least a quarter of them packing heat too. Assuming the size of the motorcycle gang is around 50 like it appears to be in this video then that's 12-13 of then carrying a gun as a low ball estimate. Yea you'll kill 3-4 of the bastards but you'll be sealing your fate AND your families fate in the process. At least this guy has a chance to survive and his family is unharmed physically.

Who all was at fault?

To me it looks like the biker who brake-checks the SUV (0:27) is the instigator of the whole ordeal. IMO, he clearly tried to MAKE SURE that the driver of the SUV rear-ended him.

ETA: And if I was in the same situation -- surrounded by a mob of angry dipshits on motorcycles who were slashing my tires and such -- I would have done the exact same thing. I'm not gonna ease my way out of them, trying to be careful and not hit anyone. I'm gonna experiment with my truck's 0-60 performance for sure.

This is why I will never live in a liberal state.
