Charles Barkley didn't even manage one par at The American Century Championship this weekend.

And the best shot he hit was one handed.

And remember the max score on any hole was going to be double bogey because of the stableford system. He probably didn't break 120 either day.

^Barkley said after he has hip surgery here soon, he is going to completely be dedicated to playing left handed from now on. Probably the best idea he has had when it comes to trying to get over his mental issues.

Being a hack doesn't necessarily lead to slow play, and vice versa. The problem is that most of those guys have zero clue how to play ready golf. How many times have you seen this scenario play out?

Two idiots are cart partners. Idiot #1 is in the right rough 150 yards out, Idiot #2 is in the left rough the same distance. Instead of one guy grabbing a club or two and heading to his ball while the other takes the cart, both of them sit in the cart while one plays, then both hop back in and take the cart over to the other ball while the other plays. Rinse, repeat down the entire fairway.

Same thing on the green, each guy has to wait into the other guy is completely finished before reading his putt - apparently it's too much to ask to read your putt while the other guy is putting.

I've played with speedy 20s and glacial 5s. It just a matter of knowing how to be ready when it's your turn, however many turns that may be.
More times than not the guy who hits it 100+ times is the one who doesn't understand that though. I see it way too much. And I was referring more towards the people who can't break 100 to save their lives, but think they should be at Kearney hills playing the black tees on a Saturday/Sunday morning. Go to the range instead please and thank you.

U mean this thread? And didn't know he was such a celebrity around here. Please forgive me golf gods.

Was it this thread? Sorry I didn't go back and double check. You were a pompous *** in that whole exchange. I almost put you on ignore. Glad I didn't because you have good takes on some things.

Just realize you were an *** and move on. Reigniting that discussion won't help.

I agree with this. I play by the etiquette of golf meaning, if you're further away it's your turn, if you won the hole you have the honor things and things like that. Now, there are exceptions like if a guy has hit 2 times in a row and puts his bunker shot 10 feet further from the hole than I am, I'll putt to let him take his time.

The cart thing is so true and it annoys me. The guy I play with is almost always longer off the tee than I am unless he hits iron. Therefore, I'm hitting into the green first most of the time. He'll drop me off at my ball. I'll take my club. As I'm taking my practice swings he's driving to his ball and I'll catch up with him as he's hitting. It really seems to be the best way to do.

Slow play really frustrates me. Normally when I'm on the course I don't have anywhere to be so waiting shouldn't really bother me. Then it frustrates me that it frustrates me.

Play with a 4 HC who thinks he is playing for the Masters every shot. Great guy and solid golfer, but watching his routine every shot is torcher. On the other hand, there is a 20+ HC at the club who does not care at all about how bad he is but has a short routine, picks his ball up when necessary, and just follows basic etiquette and is much more fun to play with. Agree with others above, it's not always about someone's skill level when it comes to slow play.

Point taken lol. I may have been just a little bit, but no harm intended.
I was just following suit on most of the stuff I see on the paddock.!
Anywho, 68 today at tates creek. Still not hitting the ball real solid. Scrambling my *** off though.

Why aren't you at the KY Open this week, hot shot? Once you start hitting the ball well, you should be in the low-mid 60s.

Hey, BBdk, I put a Grafalloy Red shaft (very low spin) in my Titleist 910d driver and man, it made a hell of a difference over the stock shaft it came with.

Pair of 74s over the weekend, hitting 14 & 15 greens. :weary:

Was -3 after 8 Saturday, -1 after 6 Sunday -- complete joke. There isn't a worse putter in KY right now than me.

I've never hit it this well in my entire life, swear I could have been in the 60s at least one of the days putting w/ my 3wood.

Maybe you shouldn't have thrown the Bettinardi into the woods. :scream:

Having a good ball striking day and a bad putting day is frustrating no doubt. You know you've ruined a good chance to shoot one of your better scores. I still wouldn't be disappointed about the pair of 74's though.

How much is a weekend round at Kearney now?

GHIN holding steady at 6.5. Putting has saved some scores for me recently, but that's because I missed too many greens. If I hit greens, then I don't make the putts I need to go low. Shot an 81 last week with a double, triple, and a quad. 15 pars. At least I don't have to worry about that happening again.

God I haven't been on the golf course in over a week. Following up a nice 78 with inactivity. Won't know how to put my golf glove on next time I hit the links.

:sunglasses:

Nah, I've been a marginal ball-striker my entire life. Lived off my scrambling and ability to get up and down from anywhere.

36.3 average my Sr. year of HS, and I bet I averaged 3 greens per 9 :100points:. Don't hit balls, hate practicing.

...so when I finally get my swing in a groove, I forget how to putt and score. In my experience, that's golf. As soon as I start hitting it like a hack, I'll get my short game back. Golf is touched like that (for me).

I'll still gladly play you for 3 a side for any amount of money you want, pro.

Me too, I give strokes 98% of the time I play golf. So the other 2%, I will certainly enjoy my gifts. :golf:

Why are some people so reluctant to let people play through?

I finished up work a little early today so I ran out to play 18 by myself and came up on a twosome who wouldn't let me play through. I realize they don't have to, but once they saw me they started running around trying to play faster. I still caught them and ended up having to skip a hole.

I understand not letting a twosome through on a slammed packed weekend, but on an empty course it makes no sense.

I think it's because they truly don't know about the "play through" concept. That or they are just jackasses, only two possibilities..

If the twosome wasn't playing slow, then why should they let you play through? And if the course was empty, why didn't you just skip a hole and pass them, or play around them? This happened with me last night, and we let a single play through, but he waved at us, and just said he would move on to the next hole and told us to enjoy ourselves.

An empty course changes things IMO. Just play wherever.

Also depends on if there are multiple 2somes & 3somes behind the 2some/3some that's pushing you. You let the 1st one through, you just start a game of backup and/or other groups that want/need to go through, and the next group is on the tee with you while you wait for the one you just let through.

If you go out on a weekend morning (or any other known prime time at your course) with anything less than 4, you deserve to wait imo. Pro shop shouldn't let that happen to begin with, tbh.

I can't stand being pushed on the golf course. I prefer to let anyone through, as I can't settle down with a group up my *** on every shot -- but most people disagree.
