Actually little caesars thick crust pepperoni is pretty fire sometimes.

Jets thick crust is the bomb too

Pizza hut cheese sticks with pizza sauce is super getti. Who doesn't like that?

papa johns is good when the pad the dough good enough.

dominos thin crust cheese pizza is really good for pizza eaters that don't want all the calories.

I hate anything chicago style where they steam the toppings under the cheese. disgusting.

Joe Balognas in lexington is the bomb too.

BTW, if you all think this thread is lunacy, read the thread called "how good will we really be next year."

The smartest post in that thread is:

Two things have to happen.

1. The defense has to be the tops.

3. Shooting has to be better.

Both can happen I believe but its up to how bad guys want to improve.

Read that one again.

Papa John's in Somerset is edible. I'm having it for breakfast right now, in fact.

The best local pizza here is hands-down Mill Springs Pizza in Nancy. I like Donatos here, too.

Have you tried our new Mellow Mushroom? I hear it's good if you don't mind waiting and paying (a bit pricey for pizza).

I don't even understand where the animosity is coming from? This guy ends up battling everyone at one time or another from what I've seen. Also, mocking pot smokers when his name is brewdoggy? Should we post all the alcohol related deaths per year? And I'm not a pot advocate by any means, but all of this just goes along with your hypocrisy meter with this dude.

In 10+ years, I can count on one hand how many times I've gotten into it with another poster on here. He's told me three times I was on ignore,
perhaps he needs an instructional video. [laughing]

Best chain pizza IMO is Domino's thin crust. Best overall pizza is Buddy's in downtown Frankfort. Buddy's has delicious pizza and a solid beer selection. If it's lunchtime, Buddy's had Ale-8, which is awesome with pizza.

I used to go out to Mill Springs all the time when they were located in the old building with the pool room in the back where we'd shoot pool for free while waiting on our pizza to get done. Great stuff.

I remember playing pool there a few times. Most of the time when I was waiting for pizza I'd hang out in Audio Video or I'd read comics at Mac's.

I've eaten there once. The parking lot was pretty full as usual but we didn't have to wait long. We got a Funky Chicken and I thought it was fantastic. I spilled my Coke in my lap and all over the floor, though. ;b

I'll weigh in since I'm within walking distance of some of the best pizza joints in the state, Coals, Diorios, Saints, Tony Boombozz, Mellow Mushroom and Spinelli's. Great to be a Cat fan and living in St. Matthews.

Giovanni's pizza folks...best in Kentucky

I can agree on that for local chains (Is Giovanni's in more than one state?). Not sure if Jet's or Old Chicago are national chains (I've eaten at OC in Idaho and KY so it must be close) but both are really good too. Only buy PJ's if there is a VERY large discount involving multiple offers.

I've taken a big liking to Pie Five lately and it puts Papa John's or many others to shame, in my opinion. Had some last night and loved it.

Its not a fast food pizza place but I love Old Chicago. I try and eat there every time I trip down to Lexington.

We seem to have an abundance of pizza joints in Somer-vegas. What's the one behind Culver's? It's literally next to Gatti's. LOL!
Can you get a good brew in Mellow Mushroom to wash down the pie?

I've been to Mellow Mushroom once too. There used to be a place in Burnside too. Not sure if it's still there.

There's the drunk old man that started posting drunk...always critical of UK fans

Folks, this guy is the biggest phony around. Just keep watching his posts. Always quick to rip on a UK fan. ALWAYS. A real jerk
I am only critical of UK fans when they are embarrassing. As far as being a phony, I've been a UK fan for a long time. Relatively new to this board, about a year, but I do not like dishonest people. Do you go to BW3s? Hooters? What team does the starter of those restaurants support? It is flat stupid to dislike a pizza because the guy that started the company is a UL fan. What pizza company other than Joe Bologna's that you know of was started by a UK fan.

To criticize me because I said it is stupid to hate a brand of pizza because of the team it's owner cheers for shows your intelligence level. It is pizza. Either it tastes good or it doesn't.

Mr. B's in Henderson and Bowling Green has some really good pizza too.

And some damn fine wings.

Oh man there was a Mr B's in Owensboro when I was in middle school. We LOVED it. Then a church bought Lincoln Mall and shut it down

Gotta agree with Giovannis. Not very up on the local pizza joints in Lex as I have been in SW FL for almost 10 yrs. But, man growing up in Ashland Giovanni's was by far the best. No shortage of grease but great nonetheless. One on every corner as well seemed like.

I believe you're thinking of Snappy Tomato Pizza (which I personally have never tried - it honestly doesn't look all that great to me from the pics I've seen of it in some of the circulars). It used to be located at the old 24 hour donut shop close to the bowling alley.

Best in the Somerset area (Nancy/Eubank) is def. Mill Springs (although I have no eaten there since they moved from the old building off of West 80 to the new building just off of Zollicoffer. Since Eubank Pizza opened up, it's actually slightly closer (and a much quicker drive) for me to go there and it's 100% the same pizza (not the great atmosphere that the old Mill Springs had however w/the pool room in the back, etc. - I LOVED that place. I can not comment on what it's like in the new building they have been in for a pretty good # of yrs. now since I've never been. Maybe it's as great as it used to be? - I have so many memories from the old building with ex-GF's and an uncle who was also my best friend who was killed in 2007 in a car accident that the new building could really never be as "special" to me. The old Mill Springs was simply my "go to" place).

I have a cousin who is an asst. mgr. at Dominos, so I have eaten quite a bit of it (for free) the last couple of years. Some times it's actually VERY good - other times? Not so much (and I always have to take an antacid prior to eating it as something about the sauce they use ALWAYS gives me heartburn).

Both Pizza Huts here are very lacking in quality control IMO. Some times you get a "hit" - but most of the time? It's nothing compared to what it was in the 90's and certainly not the 80's. The Pizza Hut off of Exit 87 in Richmond is one of the best ones I have eaten at. It's privately owned and their cheese sticks there are to DIE FOR! I used to stop there almost every time I'd drive up to get beer (prior to use going wet in 2012).

Papa Johns, I haven't eaten there in a LONG time.

Donatos is actually REALLY good. LOVE their thing crust and their sausage and their pepperoni are FANTASTIC. Pretty good atmosphere as well. I enjoy going with a few friends and sitting in that smaller front room.

Never tried Mellow Mushroom. Little Ceasars? Believe it or not, I remember in the mid to late 90's (prior to them beginning their $5.00 "hot and ready" deal), when they were located sort of across from Hardees north (I think a KY Wildcats Outlet store is located there now, right)? Anyhow, their pizza was actually pretty damn decent back then.

I think Gatti's has become disgusting. Back in the late 80's and through the mid-90's? Believe it or not? They actually had GREAT pizza. It was COMPLETELY different in comparison to what it is today. Not even in the same REALM. I can not believe how the quality of so many pizza places has dipped so low over the past 20 yrs. Actually? That really could be said about a large majority of fast food outlets in general, which is why I NEVER eat the stuff (and when, if I go out for pizza? It's either Donatos or Eubank Pizza). If I'm going to go out and eat? I'm going to go somewhere that's worth going to.

I don't make it down to Burnside all that often, but I did try their "Pizza & Pub" (back prior to Somerset going wet) and it was "okay" - to doughy for me. I don't think they are in business anymore, but, I could be wrong. I know they either closed down or moved at one point.

Any of you Lexington locals like Pazzo's? I always thought that their pizza was just ever-so-slightly above being "middle of the road" - but I LOVED the atmosphere and it was always the place where me and my Somerset friends would meet up with our Lexington friends. Pitchers of beer and pizza and just, again, a great atmosphere. Always enjoyed the experience.

I remember when the guy that ran the local label Eugene Records worked there (I used to be heavily involved in the music scene) - Mark Borders - who played at the time in a Lexington band called The Infected. He actually went on to play in Green Jelly and over the last several years, he has been working as a sound man for such bands as Nashville *****, Motorhead (R.I.P.), Black Dahlia Murder, and playing guitar w/the aforementioned Green Jelly as well as The Dwarves (one of my favorite bands personally - while Motorhead was/IS my all-time favorite band - R.I.P. Lemmy).

The greatest "find" that Mark made was a band out of Baton Rouge, LA called The Kenmores. There is a band fairly well-known in the metal scene today (out of GA) named Baroness that remind me A LOT of The Kenmores old sound. We had a short-lived club one of my close friends opened here in Somerset that was VERY successful for a couple of years (prior to the city prematurely shuttering it because Somerset is a fairly lame-assed town) called The Amp Space and that's where I first experienced The Kenmores during a Eugene Records "showcase" Sunday night back in 2002. They just blew me away and me and friends began driving to Knoxville, Louisville, Richmond, Lexington, etc. hitting up every show of theirs that we could.

Ok, I've went WAYYY off topic, but, I guess a thread about pizza is a bit off-topic on a basketball forum anyways.....

BTW, I think Gatti's is the best of the non-local places.
As I mentioned in my 2nd post above, the local Gattis here in Somerset USED to be SO good back in the 80's through about the mid-90's. (I remember getting a pizza there during my senior year of high school, 1994, and early AM that next morning? I woke up puking my guts out and though the pizza was GREAT that I got that day & might have had NOTHING to do with me getting so sick? Any time I get sick like that after eating whatever? It sorta "ruins" that particular food and/or place I got the food from, some times forever and some times simply for a LONG time).

In Gattis case, it was for a LONG time. I did not eat there again until 2011 I think. I went with an uncle of mine for the buffet and it was "decent". Absolutely, 100% an entirely different pizza vs. what they made back in the 80's to the mid 90's. MUCH cheaper in quality and just "blah" at best. I would never go there if *I* was the one paying for it. Maybe your Gattis still makes it like the one here in Somerset did 20 years ago? If so then heck yeah - that's some pretty darn good pizza.
