Oliver Luck was very involved in getting WVU into the Big 12 through his Texas connections along with Joe Manchin for calling out Senator Mitch McConnell for trying to use his connection with the president of Oklahoma to have Louisville chosen instead. McConnell and Oklahoma backed off and Texas had their way and the better choice was made. Rich Rodriguez is a complicated individual who is driven by his ego to be at the top of whatever he does and viciously attack anyone or any entity that stands in his way. He has shown to be much better with attracting the Jimmys and Joes than being effective with the Xs and Os. Halftime adjustments should have taken care of the infamous Pitt game that likely kept WVU from a National title, but there were none. Player for player WVU was the much better team and there are many coaches who could have made the adjustments to win that game going away. His inflexibility during games has haunted him everywhere with losses that should have been wins. Rich apparently had another side away from football that most of us are unaware of. His on the field persona and willingness to bend the rules were separate from the type of person he could be if something touched him in a way that made him care. I believe Cuyahoga Falls Eers account of the way RR treated him and his late "Mona Lisa". That alone makes him an unwavering defender of RR and everything about him, it's human nature. Anecdotal evidence of his bridge burning with a flame thrower and historical events tell us that although RR did very well with Pat White, Steve Slaton, Darius Reynaud, Owen Schmitt, Noel Devine, and others he has struggled without that kind of talent. The results are there for anyone to become aware of including causing Michigan to be put on probation. Despite a fresh start at Arizona, Rodriguez will likely never be a P5 head coach again. But his close friends and others he touched with compassion off the field will forever defend him. JMHO
