What do you think would do more for your career, playing for Kentucky or playing for SMU?? Mark Pope obviously wants this kid because he’s went to watch him play a few times. I’m sure he’s offered him a ton to come here. I’d do him the same way I said I would do Stokes. I’d give him about two days to make a decision then the offer is expired. These kids have a carrot on a string dragging people through the mud.

At some point, you have to have a little bit of pride when it comes to getting dragged along with these kids. I understand Pope has to give up a little bit of pride because he’s fighting for his job, but at some point, you have to move on and get some other kid that wants to come here and play.
pope is bad at recruiting because pope is bad at building relationships. he is of the belief that the name on the front of the jersey and glory of playing for the BBN is all that is needed.
SMU isn't afraid to spend money and Pate's from Dallas. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up there.

Pate has said from the beginning he was only looking at UK due to Hart. It's his only relationship at the college level due to their time together in the G league.
Him wanting to play for Hart is nothing new at all and not in any way a knock on Pope.
Pope obviously wants him, he was just up there watching him. If Hart was the only reason it makes you think of why Pope let him get away so easy in a make or break year when he needs recruits.

He’s had about a year to develop a relationship with the kid. He must have zero charisma. I think it’s a huge knock on Pope.
He reportedly has a healthy asking price. I think UK will be quite reserved in offering anyone but absolute studs a ton of money.
There are already a bunch of really good players entering the portal. There are going to be many many more really good players enter the portal. I’ll be damned if I would worry too much and be strung along by Dink Pate.
If we lose Pate to SMU it'll be a recruiting dagger for Pope. Imagine the scuttlebutt around the recruiting scene. This dude let an assistant coach go for failure to secure recruits to only get out recruited by said coach. Bad look.
Pope has to be the long shot here. But making SMU pony up (yup) more dough is not a bad plan. Playing in the ACC for SMU is nothing like playing for UK. But, if Hart wants him, make Hart pay.
Definite over reaction. Playing for someone who already coached you is nothing like a “dagger.” Stirtz jumped from Drake. A bunch wanted him. Everyone knew he was following his coach to Iowa. What? IOWA????
Agreed but perception is reality. Pope has shown he's invested and wants Pate.
I think you're right though. He needs to draw a line in the sand so he can move on. Either you want this or you don't. Let me know in 48 hrs or the offer is rescinded. Don't get played or strung along left holding your d!@k.
I just don’t know how I feel about Pate. I’ve watched some video of Pate, but I’m just not convinced yet that there won’t be a number of better options in the Portal, especially at 2G. Maybe that’s just him being such and an unknown compared probably to Portal guys.

He has said a few times that he loves Kentucky, if he plays college basketball he hopes it’s at Kentucky and so on. Just because his old coach called him, moving on seems like a bad idea to me. If anything work hard and close the deal.
That's a guaranteed way to never get a recruit.
