Paterno's attitude is astounding to me.

It's like he doesn't even care what has happened or can't understand why it has happened. Strange

he doesn't fully grasp what is going on. Maybe he has dementia. Seriously. This whole thing is so 17ed up. I think this has been in the works for some time and they just waited for him to get 409 wins. Which just makes it that much more 17ed up.

Apparently there is no one telling him to shut the 17 up. Think about that for a while. Everyone close to him is as clueless as he is about this whole situation. Either that or they are the 17ing epitome of a dysfunctional family. Either option is not good.

the wife coming out in the robe... his with his backhanded comment of "oh, and pray for the victims" crap... He could have toned all of this down if he would say "look, tonight, this is about more than football"

I haven't commented on this yet, so here are a couple things I've thought about<div>
</div><div>First, the board of trustees did exactly what it had to do. Paterno is guilty of negligence and they were not about to sit by and let him finish the season on his own terms and watch him be paraded and carted off the field as a hero and legend.</div><div>
</div><div>Second, I agree what someone else said about just being old. However not an excuse at all, I think he's just basically been in a bubble. I mean he was 74 when all this started to come out, I think he did go to the proper administration and tell them what he heard (some reports are saying he actually told the police, but these are from pro-Joe protesters), I just don't think he took it that serious, maybe he thought it was blown out of proportion and not as bad as it seemed. The fact is though is that he knew about it, and whether he chose to forget or sweep it under the rug, he didn't pursue such a serious accusation and situation nearly enough. He is the CEO of the football program and all of this took place under his nose at the Penn State football facilities.</div><div>
</div><div>He wanted to come outside to "Check on the students"? His wife in her robe seeming to come out of the house to see what all theruckuswas about? What an absolute disaster unfolding at Penn State</div>

In his statement released yesterday morning, it's all "I" and "Me" and "Penn State". One bone thrown "prayers for the victims".

Hey Joe, a lot of this could have been avoided if YOU took action with law enforcement instead of chasing records to feed your ego.

And Joe, you got FIRED, you will NOT eclipse Amos Alonzo Stagg. I hate you are tied for first place with him.

If he'd been half as concerned about the victims 13 years ago as he says he is today, many of them wouldn't have become victims.

It irks me that Paterno (I won't call him Joe Pa anymore - he doesn't deserve a grandfatherly nickname) talks about what hindshight has shown him.

********. He's had years, decades, of hindsight. He's got no newer, fresher hindsight now.

Paterno is truly sorry....that Penn State got caught.
