If this actually sticks, I like the return teams as well as seeing Whitley get some time at SS since he plays like a linebacker anyway. Nothing really surprises me other than seeing Eulls starting at end. I thought for sure that he'd be used as a DT with his size and our lack of depth. So, either he had a really strong camp, or we're in big trouble on the end opposite of Ferguson.

We have had a lot of **** go wrong on the DL the last several years. McKenzie quit, Bell tragically passed away, Howie quit, Mackey went to TT, Dixon signed with Vandy, and etc. It isn't easy to build depth on the DL when those kind of things happen.

One thing that becomes evident after seeing Hughes as the backup FS - we're going to be fairly young at the safety positions next year. We'll have Whitley as a JR, Hughes as a SO, and the rest will be redshirt freshmen (assuming none of those guys play this year).

I'd love for Slay to live up to the hype so we can move Banksto FS next year. That would be a heck of a secondary - Banks, Whitley, Slay, & Broomfield.

and Banks rolls back to safety.

I know this is a reach, but maybe, just maybe, the JUCO DT Cherrington is going to allow Eulls to play end.

Evans, Ward, Jefferson etc. see the opportunities they would have at MSU to get fairly early playing time. Glad we got Nick James to commit. Hope we hold him and he can get qualified.

There is going to be a ton of playing time all along the DL in the coming years, especially at DE. I was really surprised to hear that Ward is leaning to the bears at this point. I guess they have playing time to offer as well, but they are a serious cluster 17 and I don't see how nutt can turn it around and I think he gets another year after this one b/c of his contract. They are in a bind with a lame duck coach that they are stuck with.

but if he is really leaning to the Bears this early he is likely a lost cause. Heck, as we saw last year, the recruiting heppin' from Bear country usually doesn't even get serious until the late December and January time frame.
