This definitely has legs. The Mississippi Joint legislative PEER committee even considered opening an investigation into this issue at it's December meeting. They decided the NCAA would be a more appropriate venue, but if UMC-which uses Mississippi tax payer dollars-is hiring an unlicensed doctor to help Ole Miss land a recruit it becomes an issue of eroding public trust in a state institution. The allegations should be investigated just to ensure that it's not happening.

Contact info for PEER...

It says here that that the Chair of the PEER Committee is Senator Gary Jackson. This guy...

http://billstatus.ls.state.ms.us/members/senate/jackson_(15th).xml

email: [email protected]

Phone and address from his web page at the aforementioned link:

Capitol:
Room: 213 B
P. O. Box 1018
Jackson, MS 39215
(601)359-3234

Home:
P. O. Box 40
French Camp, MS 39745
(662)547-6684 (H)

All rivalries aside - I feel that a recruit's parent being offered a taxpayer funded job in exchange for football is way out of line. Maybe its illegal. I suggest anyone who is likewise concerned contact Senator Jackson to inquire about this situation.

What are the allegations?

That his dad got a job at UMC? There could be a variety of jobs they gave the guy that he was qualified for. I doubt very seriously they were dumb enough to put an unlicensed MD in charge of patient care. He's probably got some kind or research or admin type position they can prove he was qualified for.

The misuse of tax payer funds at a state-funded hospital to hire a recruits father in exchange for that said recruit's commitment.

Yes, that is a HUGE problem.

Behr posted this on 247. Just passing along.

Take note of the last sentence in the examples.
Q: What is an extra benefit? What are some examples?
A: An extra benefit is any special arrangement to provide a student-athlete or the student-athlete?s relatives or friends with a benefit not authorized by NCAA rules. The NCAA allows Texas A&M to provide student-athletes with the following: scholarships to cover tuition, fees, room, board and books; a limited number of complimentary admissions to Aggie athletic events; practice or competition-related apparel; travel; equipment; medical treatment and much more. It is a violation of NCAA rules for a student-athlete to receive benefits not authorized under NCAA guidelines unless the same benefit is available to a segment of a population unrelated to athletics or to all Texas A&M students or their parents/guardians.
Examples of Extra Benefits a Booster CANNOT provide:
Cash or gifts.
The use of personal property (e.g., boats, summer houses/condos, automobiles).
A special discount arrangement or credit on a purchase (e.g. airline tickets, clothing).
Arranging, providing, or co-signing on a loan.
Providing any kind of transportation or the use of a car.
Gifts of food, clothing or equipment.
Arranging or providing free or reduced cost professional services (e.g., free dental or medical services, haircuts, automotive services, laundry, dry cleaning)
The use of a telephone or telephone credit card for free long distance calls.
Entertainment or the purchase of meals or services at commercial establishments.
An invitation to play on your country club golf course or eat a meal there.
A benefit connected with off-campus housing that is not available to all residents (e.g., television sets, electronic equipment, room furnishings, and specialized recreational facilities).
Room, board, or transportation costs (including a stay in your home or transportation to or from a job).
Typing or incurring other costs associated with school projects, reports, or resumes.
Financial rewards for athletic performance.
An honorarium or fee for a speaking engagement or other appearance.
A guarantee of a bond.
Giving tickets to a student-athlete to a Texas A&M or community athletic event (e.g., state high school basketball tournament tickets; high school games, collegiate, professional or any sporting event).
A benefit derived by a student-athlete who sells complimentary tickets to a Texas A&M event.
Arranging or providing free or reduced cost housing.
Arranging or providing employment for a student-athlete's parents, guardians or friends

I just had a smart assed Rebel running his mouth to me about RN. tried to act like he was in the crootin loop at OM. When i brought up the above info, he basically said "no ****" and said that Freeze knows they can't take RN bc of the info you're talking about...so they're trying to get RN to commit to them soon so OM can get some other good players (Treadwell and Daniel were 2 he mentioned) in the boat, and then let RN decommit and choose Bama or LSU at the last minute and leave all of the other croots stuck with OM to help his brother's team. I doubt all of that is true, but why say it if you are a Rebel fan? I hope these croots realize they may get royally 17ed on signing day. Maybe not though.

What if he's qualified for whatever position he got?

Of course I'm playing devil's advocate, but if there was a need and he was qualified, it's hard to prove that the hiring wasn't legitimate.

If they made up a cush position for him, gave him something he wasn't qualified or licensed to do, or are paying him way more than market rates, of course, they've got some issues. I doubt they are that dumb - we'll see.

before anybody gets too excited....

first, i'm not certain he has been offered or has taken a job over here. there have been rumors of that but i do not know it to be true. second, many recruits parents move near where their kid plays ball. nothing inherently illegal about that. if the dad is qualified for the job he takes and proper hiring proceedures are followed then there is nothing at all wrong with it. third, i have a high level of confidence that given the high profile of the kid involved that nobody is dumb enough to do something so obvious IF it was illegal.

Good point. We might need to ask for an Ethics Commission look-see as well. Our State has ethics laws forbidding the mere appearance of impropriety amongst state institutions.

It's a violation to get a parent a job for a recruit...

Is it an NCAA violation for the parent of a recruit to seek new employment? Is it an NCAA violation for the parent of a recruit to seek new employment in order to be closer to the institution at which his 2 youngest sons play college football? Is it an NCAA violation for a University Medical Center to offer gainful employment to an individual who is qualified for the position into which he is being hired? Is it reasonable to think that Dr. Nkemdiche actively sought a position once he learned of his youngest son's college intentions in order to be closer to his son and that the largest provider of healthcare in the State of Mississippi offered him a position for which he is qualified? Is it reasonable to think that the number 1 recruit in the nation, who could go to any school in the country and to whom any school in the country would give basically whatever was "needed" in order to secure his signature, would decide to go to an SEC bottom-dweller ONLY because his father got a new job a couple of hours away from where he is playing football, despite the fact that his brother already attends school there? Is it reasonable to think that Ole Miss is the only school among potential suitors that can offer "benefits" equal to or greater than those being suggested here?

Or, is it reasonable to assume that a father, who has 2 sons playing SEC football in Oxford, MS, a wife who lives abroad much of the year, and no remaining ties to his current place of residence, decided to seek employment closer to his children in order to make it easier on himself to see his children and vice-versa; and in so doing saught employment at multiple healthcare facilities of which the largest in the state ended up being the best fit?

Has Dr. Nkemdiche even been offered a job at UMC and, if so, has it been accepted? Or is this just a wild goose chase based upon an internet rumor that started months ago?

In any case, Robert Nkemdiche will either attend Ole Miss because his brother is there and that's most important to him and his family, or he'll attend another school because he believes there are things more important than playing with his brother and another school can offer those things more than anyone else.

In other words, there is only one reason he will go to Ole Miss if he does and that's not because of a new job his father may or may not get.

only 1 problem to your post:

There could be an email or three talking about hiring him while Robert was committed to Clemson. Should an investigation turn that up- then that doesnt really look too good to the NCAA.

"If" state fans repeat false rumors over and over again, then they must be true. Do you really believe that Dan Jones and Freeze would be this stupid? Actually, by the stupidity of this thread I guess I know the answer. Good job 24/7 and sixpackspeak investigation squad. You blew the lid off another OM conspiracy.

I'm pretty excited about the fact the dad is an unlicensed doctor...

...the dad mixed up in this mess is an unlicensed doctor. Yet he is working in a hosptial? Unless he is working as an orderly, or is working in the laundry room, this in & of itself merits an investigation.

Robert Elliot called and told me that it isn't unusual for a recruit to be committed to a certain school while never having any intention whatsoever to sign with that school. CJ Johnson called a minute later and confirmed the report.

That would obviously be a big issue. Just remember...

...these are the folks that were able to slide Masoli through the NCAA's own framework. They are crafty folks. I could easily see them having something documented in a way where it's clear than Nkemdichie was qualified for whatever it is he was hired for ("Sunny Nkemdiche University of Mississippi Medical Center" still results in no Google hits - who knows if he actually works there?).

As long as there is no clear connection between Sunny Nkemdiche and his son's athletic talents during the job search, they could be in good shape, or at least in a position to fight the NCAA or defend themselves should it ever come up.

Edit: reply fail. Meant to reply to the other Behr post.

Because Robert Nkemdiche has spoken to the importance of playing with his brother and he has followed those statements up by saying that playing with his brother isn't the only thing he's looking at when evaluating schools. He's rarely said much about Ole Miss besides comments based around his brother and he's frequently spoken about the more common recruiting themes when discussing other schools. Therefore, it would lead one to believe that if he decides on Ole Miss it would have more to do with his brother than anything else. I don't think he's foolish enough to think he'll be competing for MNC's at Ole Miss. On the other hand, after reading his comments and those of his family members, it would also lead one to believe that if he chooses someone else (Bama, LSU, Clemson, etc.) then it would be because those schools can offer him something greater than the ability to play with his brother (exposure, coaching, championships, etc.).

The original poster of this thread stated that the PEER review committee decided not to investigate as they believed the NCAA was a more appropriate venue. Generally, states do not cede their investigative authority in matters of potential criminal or unethical activity to the NCAA's committee on infractions. So, if the premise of the poster's original statement is to be taken as valid, then it can be reasonable assumed that no state laws or ethics provisions have been violated.

Expect the third call to be to Hugh Freeze from Robert in February...

Oh wait he hasn't committed to Ole Miss yet. Wonder why not?

With regard to the Peer allegations, I will believe it when I see it.

The guy is two things - 1. A great football player
2. Not going to Ole Miss

We are more interested in updates to national news...

...the son to the unlicensed doctor & all his recruiting shenanigans is a national story. When the #1 college football recruit in the nation is involved in colorful plots, it's a national story by default. In case you haven't noticed, we like to discuss national stories here. The MSU story is local. It can wait.

You keep saying that he talks about playing with his brother, so it "would be for no other reasons", but then you say he followed those statements up by saying there are other reasons as well. Do you not see how dumb that sounds?
Also, you DO realize he doesn't have brothers on any of the other teams recruiting him don't you? So the brother comment may be the only legal reason he is even considering you guys. In fact, it more than likely is.
And you mentioned that he isn't expecting a National Championship out of Ole Miss, right?

So what are you expecting him to say? He's not going to say, "Well Ole Miss has pretty much nothing for me except my brother....but they are in a bidding war for me with Bama and LSU, and that Lawyer money plus a gig for my Dad, is definitely keeping them in the game."
You act like you can take everything a recruit says to Yancy as fact.

Seriously guy, if you can't see the difference in saying MSU should play Ole Miss' recruiting game when it comes to top MS guys and the alleged assumption that the #1 recruit in the country may sign with Ole freaking Miss because his dad got hooked up with a job at the med school, then you are a Grade A dipshit. There's no spin on that, pal.

But we know the answer. You're butt hurt that any MSU fan could ever challenge the recruiting prowess that is Ole Miss by damn, even with evidence. Give me a break. Some things will happen, like boosters greasing the pockets of a couple players' pockets every year. Big deal. But the Nkemdiche situation is a little, well no, A LOT, different than your run of the mill Pat Patterson or C.J. Johnson story.

between Bobby Petrino giving someone a state job in exchange for sex and OM affiliated people giving someone a state job in order to get their son as a football recruit? In both cases the only way I can see to get by with it would be that you would have to show that the person you gave the job to applied for a publicly advertised job opening and ended up being the best qualified candidate who applied for the opening. Private jobs are a little different (though there are still basic employment fairness laws) but specifically with jobs funded with public funds there is a VERY strict process for how those positions get filled.

Good god people .There are many, many positions at UMC in the educational arena and or research he could be qualified for. That wouldnt be an issue getting him a job if someone had the strings to pull it off. If it is in research most of the time that is NIH or NSF grant money (federal dollars) so its not necessarily state money. What red flags should be drawn though are the bases for the hiring , if someone more qualified for a position was turned down
bacause their son wasnt the top recruit in the country . Im sure if schools such as Georgia or Clemson catch wind of this they would hesitate to turn the Bears in .
