"did you harder in the spring, summer, and season to get better for the draft, or did you think that since you were told to stay your senior that all you had to do was show up on draft day"? I don't buy what Derek is selling, period!! By the way Melvin, Banks is not better then Smoot!!

if the projections we are seeing are correct. Having said that, Pegues is trying to attach himself to Banks here as though they have similar abilities, and they don't. Pegues wasn't good enough for the NFL after his junior year, and he wasn't good enough after his senior year. I appreciate the good things that Pegues did for us, but the two are just different types of players.<div id="isChromeWebToolbarDiv" style="display:none"></div>

As for Pegues.....STFU. Forget yourself, what good did you do the team by coming back? Your senior leadership resulted in a suspension for the first game and you didnt help yourself as a senior because you didn't do squat.

I think Banks is making a mistake by going pro now, but I wish him well and hope it works out for him. Pegues wasn't going to make it in the league no matter when he came out. My guess is Banks is 50-50 if he comes out this year and 70-30 if he waits.

Their 40 time sucks. Pegues ran like 4.6 and Banks isn't going to be much better.

Fair or foul, at the DB position your 40 time means a great deal.

year?

He had a really good year as a Junior in the secondary. Was a hard hitter, showed good quickness and was generally a playmaker.

Then he showed up for his Senior year and really didn't do much of anything. The rumor was that he faked an injury in the egg bowl so that he could stop playing and the coaching staff really made him pay for it.

Im trying to think of other players regressing from their Junior years to their Senior years. Off the top of my head the name Ken Swilling always comes to mind, and locally, Bolden had a terrible senior season, Hardy had a terrible senior season, Haggan had a bad senior season after getting moved to DL, after showing out at MLB, Im sure there are others.

If Banks is getting top 3 rounds grade, you almost have to go based on the new slotting system for the draft. You finish up the first contract as quick as possible, a lot of it is now guaranteed, and you can get to your second contract quicker.

Pegues probably isn't a good one to take advice from, but that decision is really a case by case basis.

Looking at our past players, both Oher and Willis were smart to come back. Both had room to up their draft stock and did.

Snead, on the other hand, should've gone after his redshirt sophomore year.

A lot depends on what you have coming back around you, your draft position, whether you have parts of your game that have room for dramatic improvement. If there isn't a ton of room for you to improve your draft stock, whether due to being near your own personal ceiling or being near the top of the draft, you go because you only have so many years to play. To come back, you have to be able to justify that you're going to make up for that year of lost revenue by getting a significantly higher signing bonus in the following draft.

That's why Andrew Luck was dumb last year in a pure athletic career sense. You can't get higher than the No. 1 pick. All he did was play one more year for free that he won't get back on the back end of his career.

I can't remember if Anthony Dixon had the opportunity to leave early, but he definitely helped himself a lot by coming back, losing weight, and becoming a better receiver out of the backfield. He went from likely an undrafted free agent that may not have made a team to a draft pick that did make a team with a decent contract.

He had raw talent, and got zero development through 4 years.

You want a guy that has every right to be pissed about his decision to come to State, look no further than Derek Pegues.

<div>He wants his degree before going pro. I think that shows character, but Myron Rolle out of FSU pursued a Rhodes Scholly before going pro, and scouts questioned his dedication to the sport. </div><div>
I think Pegues made it onto the Giants practice squad for a year. I dont know about after.</div>

but look at what they lost. From 2007 both starting DE's graduated, the DC left, Anthony Johnson was gone (he hadmore NFL potential than Pegues), Chaney went out after the 1st game and left our LB corp in disarray... I mean Karlin Brown, Bo Walters, & Terrell Johnsonsplit time asstarters (who?? that's right). The corners combined for a whopping 0 interceptions.

I can't blame him for being ready to quit during the egg bowl.

regressed every year. Didn't Pegues return a punt for a TD during the egg bowl? He was pretty damn good at punt returns for a good stretch.

Of those....Bo was actually pretty good and would have been very good had his injuries not taken a toll. He's finishing school on a medical scholly, if he hasn't already graduated, I believe.

I don't even know if he is still in the league, or if he was even good enough to come out after his junior year; but pretty sure Kevin Dockery as a Super Bowl ring.
