Question out there for the rule nerds. At the game I attended tonight, the offensive team was given two penalties on one play, a false start and a holding. The opposing team took the holding and backed up the offense 10 yards. When a false start occurs, shouldn't the play have been ruled dead, essentially negating the play and subsequent hold?

Unless it was a formation, illegal shift, or some other deal and they just signaled it wrong.
False start kills the play & it never happens. Illegal formation, or shift & it goes on
It was definitely a false start. Lineman on the left side jumped. Me and the guy I was standing next to caught the mistake right away. Not sure why the opposing coach or one of the other refs didn't catch the blunder however.
