It’s still open Rhule. It’s ok to have a change of heart. Go help your buddy.

I get the frustration with Rhule but we don't want to be looking for a new coach at this point, all of the good ones are taken. Maybe we can hire Hartline away from USF in a couple of years.

Timing is everything in life. Who knows how much different it would have been but I guarantee Wannie would have won more games his first year than BC. He still would have had an uphill battle with the tradition coalition though. I think the ending would have been similar.
Agree 100% on this. The cleti wouldn’t allow anyone who wasn’t a result of program inbreeding even an ounce of support

If only it could have been predicted that firing a highly successful, long-tenured coach because of a bad 3-4 games to start the season would have lasting implications. Who knew?

I personally hope they suck for 30 years. They deserve it.

Especially when JF Does this he has always had clunker seasons.

The good thing maybe is that we would be forced to look at guys like Vigen at Montana State. Sadly though it would no doubt drop to a coordinator or position coach who has never done the job. OR some mediocre failing head coach. One crazy thought. Maybe Dannen would go after DeBoer. PSU sure as hell has.

I don't know why people think the only coaches that can help Nebraska are the same old retreads. There are a lot of up and coming and hungry coaches that are proven at lower level schools who know how to win and at a lower salary to start out with. What rule says you have to have a power 5 work pedigree on your resume to win, we've sure seen plenty of failures with these work pedigrees who've taken schools to the cleaners for years.

Rhule took the Nebraska job not because he pursued it or jumped at it but because his wife told him to take it and he even admitted this. This is the second coach we've had that has reluctantly accepted the head coaching job at Nebraska.

We had a head coach whose wife never moved to Nebraska she refused to and the coach never bought a house he lived out of a hotel I believe. Hopefully someday we get someone who truly wants the job and truly wants to be here from the get go. jmo

I think Rhule figured out pretty quickly that he wanted the Nebraska job. He might be having regrets now that he didn’t jump all over the PSU job. I kind of wonder if his subdued demeanor before the Iowa game is that his buddy told him that he was no longer a viable candidate. I believe Rhule and NU are stuck with each other for a long time after that extension.

....if he wanted the job why'd he say no? He only said yes after Trev threw more money at him.

He didn’t say no . The Panthers owner wouldn’t sign off on the contract because he didn’t think the initial contract was “Market Value”. He thought the panthers were on the hook for to much. Trev was giving up and hiring Lance L. From Kansas. Ted Carter got involved and figured out a way to make the contract acceptable to the panthers owner.

You mean the extension? Why would he say no to that if his wife was telling him she didn’t want to live in that sh&& hole Happy Valley.

Perhaps i am wrong... i remember it as Rhule said no. In fact he said it in a presser... he only said yes after his wife said yes and we gave him more money. Least that how i remember it..maybe i'm wrong.

I don't think Rhule wanted the Nebraska job that badly. But James Franklin was coming off a great season and he didn't think the Penn State job would come open any time soon. Nebraska offered a chance to coach in the Big Ten at a program with tradition in the meantime, not to mention a massive paycheck, and there weren't any other good jobs open at the time. And I think he liked the city of Lincoln a lot more than he anticipated.

selfishly hoping Vigen winds back up at my alma mater in Wyoming, though I also understand there is bad blood between he and Bohl which led to his rather unceremonious departure as OC.

What is for certain is that Vigen seems to be pretty picky on where he goes, he's turned down FBS jobs two years in a row now.

He was offered and wanted it but the Panthers put up a road block. Then Trev must have sweetened the deal for Carolina. I don’t think HE ever said no.
