Allow me to give you a brief Prep/MHSAA football history (b/c I'm a Prep alum) which I garnered from the Clarion Ledger and a bit of google use for specifics.
Prep plays 2-3 public schools a year. If I'm not mistaken, they fill up their non-conference schedule with MRA, JA, and public schools. Before the MHSAA allowed schools to play MAIS school, prep would schedule some of the big TN academies (MUS and Brentwood). Yes, If my memory is correct, it was the MHSAA that was the hold-up for MAIS/MHSAA matchups (of course I'm speaking in a recent years time frame).
2010: Prep had a down year, lost in 1st round of playoffs which is pretty unusual for Prep
-beat Stanislaus 24-14, Stanislaus went to 3rd round of 4A playoffs
-lost to Pearl, 35-28. Pearl went to 5A playoffs
-Blown out 35-10 by eventual 3A champs Forest.
2009: Good year but lost championship to JA
-prep gave 4A state champs Stanislaus (w/ Favre) their only loss of the season (played @stanislaus).
-Also beat 3A runner-up Forest for their only regular season loss.
-I think they lost to pearl for the first time that year though.
-Prep wasn't even the MAIS state champs either, JA beat them for the crown.
2008: Excellent year
-The first year the MHSAA allowed inter-association competition (coincidentally, it was the same year as one of prep's best teams in at least a decade).
-Prep shutout eventual 3A runner-up Newton 24-0 for their only regular season loss (not completely sure about the 3A runner-up part)
-Prep also completely destroyed 5A pearl 50-0 (Pearl sucked balls.... but still a 5A school)
*edited for my terrible misspelling of "pedestal." Apparently Yuku doesn't provide spell check in subject line.
