He was surprisingly a good mayor. His radical views never showed. Hearing him speak after the election - he made sense.

He had been built up as the next malcolm x ................................................................

so when he took office and started governing, he was not nearly the radical disaster that had been anticipated. But make no mistake about it. He was enough of a realist to say the right things publicly, but he had very definite ideas about who would be the winners and who would be the losers.

He obviously cared for the city, and actually took action.

It was a nice change of pace for the city and it would have been nice to see what he could have done.

My only problem with lamumba is that any work done in the city had to be by a minority-owned business.

You are correct. I was concerned when he was first elected, but he was actually making some progress. It wasn't anything groundbreaking, but it is nearly impossible to make any rapid progress in Jackson.

Thanks for taking the first step to getting this thread locked. ***. Jackson is 80% African American. Most businesses are "minority" owned.

I was just saying the same thing with my Dad. The radical actions many thought may take place never did. I had always heard rumors about his health from the time he was elected, however. Sorry to hear of his passing.

Guilty as charged. Don't care. Totally inappropriate hours after the man died, and totally unfounded.

Ignorance on your part. The bid process is flawed if that caveat is in placed dubmass.

DS.....to say he was a good mayor...

Is a stretch. He just didn't openly say radical stuff he appointed a bunch of...well...I will just say not so compitant folks. May he rest in peace.

seriously....what is the process now.

Nailed it Shmuley, and squintdawg too. He wasn't nearly as bad as we thought he might be. But he definitely was pushing his agenda with the people he appointed.

The guy he appointed that is over the airport has some serious baggage from his past. The kind that will make you sick.

This is what I'm interested in. I'm not really into politics but the city council just gets to pick the mayor now?

I'm into conspiracies and what not

That's two mayors now in Jackson that died at St Dominic's. Baptist needs to have a commercial roll out tomorrow stating that.

The council picks the interim mayor. There will be a special election.

I think it should be Berrrrrrtttt Case. I know he has a new gig at wapt, but he should run. He can control the pit bulls in Jackson.

He was a good mayor relatively speaking for Jackson. Jackson was stagnant. He was actually getting stuff done.

Have to agree, he wasn't perfect but

I had become optimistic about his leadership. Unfortunate! His son did an excellent job speaking to the press.
