I know no one cares about volleyball, and Mississippi high school volleyball is non-existent. Why do we even field a team if we can't even be semi-competitive. We don't win games, much less matches. If there's no instate talent, then drop volleyball and add gymnastics. At least you can get decent crowds for that.

State's best vb player is the lovely Dulcinea of Toboso. As a matter of fact, all women's volleyball players are Dulcineas.

Hazelwood is a terrible coach

I honestly don't understand how she still has a job

Ole Miss is in the same state as us and has a team with a 6-6 SEC record. Hazelwood is turrible. The only reason we're 13th and not 14th in the conference is that Vandy doesn't have a team.

It's bad. And the soccer team is just as bad.
I think this has to be the end of the road for Hazelwood.

Because it's a cheap sport to use to meet Title IX requirements and it's one the SEC competes in. What sport would you replace it with? gymnastics takes more equipment and isn't any more popular than volleyball (I'd guess less popular in Mississippi) and I think only a few SEC schools have competitive teams. If we drop volleyball, we need to go super cheap, like bowling and/or whatever they call shooting. At least with shooting we'd have a natural recruiting base. SUrely there isa girl in Mississippi with a deer rifle that we can train up into an olympic athlete.

With the SEC network, and increased visibility of volleyball, the blowouts are indeed embarrassing. Can't just pretend the sport doesn't exist anymore.

If we need more Title IX credits, we should definitely create a ladies rifle team. OM has one and it does well, provides scholarships, creates good will in the shooting community, and can't possibly cost much to operate compared with any other sport one could name.

I can't think of any reason to keep her. I don't mind not being good at women's sports, but I sure don't want to be as embarrassingly bad as volleyball and soccer are. We fired the soccer coach last year and the new coach has a team of almost all true freshmen so he gets a pass for this year.

Someone once told me that the team members even provide their own guns, which are thousands of dollars each. So it's literally scholarship money and travel money for a small team with I assume at most two or three members of a coach/support staff. I guess one big expense would be a range. Wonder if they need something crazy, like a 1000 yd range, or whether there is something reasonably close to starkville that would suffice.

ETA: Nevermind, had no clue what rifle sport is like. They shoot .22 from 50 feet and air rifles from 33 feet. I thought rifle teams shot small bore guns that were set up to be basically a sniper rifle.

6' plus female athletes are assets. See Maria Taylor on SECN...

In 1990, Ashlye Davis had me attending lots VB games while I was in school there.

VB is a must, we just have to get better.
