The power of the elite 1A East teams....all impressive.
this year is indeed showing to be impressive. If you are assuming that W&L was not that good therefore AltaVista should be able to handle PM with relative ease, let me attempt to counter that thought process. Now before this big PM win over W&L, I would have probably agreed with your premise. Now, I'm not so sure. PM may indeed be able to knock off AltaVista, especially if they start rolling like last night. Yes, I was also at Salem and concur that the AltaVista coaching staff did an outstanding job from play one. However, I'm sure that there are other intelligent coaches on horizon to match wits with them.
I know that some people do not like to compare scores etc, of different opponents, well I do.
Washington and Lee went 9-3 this year and had a great season. All three teams they lost to are still competing in the 1A East final 4 teams (Essex, CB, and PM). The Eagles' big wins were against 4A KG, 3A Spotsy, and 2A King William. W&L beat KW by a score of 32-14. Essex won over KW 35-0.
Speaking of KW, while some of us were worried that a very weak Tidewater district would hurt the Cavs of KW, well, they go on the road in the 2A playoffs and defeat Strasburg (7-3) 37-12 and then shock the #2 2A team in the State Riverheads (11-0) 28-27 (never trailed in game) played in Riverheads. Congrats again KW! Well done.
PM defeated a very good W&L by 20. Essex defeated them by 21, and Colonial Beach won over the Eagles by 23 points.
I guess that my point is all the final 4 teams remaining in the East are very, very good. Could be almost a toss up. (I just do not know enough about the Western teams so others can comment on them, some very strong teams there).
Should be two awesome battles coming up to earn the last two Eastern spots to compete in the State 1A Final Four.
